(Draught at the brewpub, May 17 2014) Pours a clear pale copper with a thin white ring of head, no lace. Aroma is predominately white wine with some wood, a little pit fruit, light herbal hop character. On the tongue, again very white wine heavy, slightly buttery wood, a little floral, touch of yeast spice. Slightly sour/acidic but not much, a little malt sweetness, finish is rather weak and watery with a bit of hops. Body medium, soft carb. Definitely doesn’t present as an IPA, more like a Belgian PA or blonde, lots of barrel. I didn’t think it was as complex as it could’ve been and I wish it had finished with more punch, still decent.

(On tap at the brewpub, May 17 2014) Pours a slightly hazy dull dark gold with an average white head, lingered and left lace. Aroma of catty tropical fruit hops, lots of grapefruit pith with pineapple, mango, no real malt on the nose. Flavour leads with tons of grapefruit pith and rind as well, along with tropical fruit and cattiness, very simple and lightly sweet pale malts. Moderate to high bitterness for the malt body, especially in the finish, a little grain on the finish. Quite average body with average to high carb as well. I’d call this an APA as it has very light malt character, but it’s a pretty nice hop-forward beer with a decent profile. Nothing that really made it jump out, but that’s more a comment on the volume of good hoppy beers in Toronto now than anything.

(On tap at the brewpub, May 7 2014) Pours a bright, quite hazy yellow gold with a small white ring of bubbles. Aroma pretty sour and fruity, grapefruit juice, tropical fruit, lightly spicy, wheat, a fair bit of Brett, and maybe some bacteria? Flavour followed the nose quite well, quite sour-tart at first,grapefruit/pineapple juice along with some other fruit. A bit of light peppery spice and maybe some wood is apparent towards the finish, sourness recedes a bit, Brett, wheat. A bit too grainy when warm, but good cold. Light-medium body, soft carb. Really really drinkable, it just disappeared but quenched thirst as it went. Fairly complex but not overdone, really nice sour, needs a sunny patio.

(On tap at the brewpub, Mar 25 2014) Pours a moderately hazy dark orangeish brown with a moderate off white head. Aroma is fairly sour and brett heavy with red wine/grape, some wood, faint nutty spice and a little sweet/bready malt. Flavour follows, brett giving a fairly sour/tart character, red wine/port fruit character, woody but barrel character well integrated with malts. There’s a bit of yeasty spice and some bready notes that could well be English malts with a bit of sweetness. Finish is fairly dry, sour/tart, woody, slight hops and lingering booze. Mouthfeel is moderate and slick, low carb, fairly well-disguised alcohol. Interesting, wouldn’t call it an old ale without knowing what it was. Felt a little Flemish but it was a nice complex barrel sour.

A deep dark stout with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with light Brett and bourbon notes. In mouth, a nice smooth sweet fruity chocolate malt with light coffee and bourbon notes, light cherry, licorice, nice. On tap at brewery.

A lightly hazed brown reddish ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, beautiful sour cherry with light fruity notes, bourbon barrel, light cork, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity malt with dark red grapes, light bourbon barrel, licorice notes, alcohol warmth, very nice. On tap at brewery.

(On tap at the brewpub, Mar 18 2014) Pours a deep burnt orange colour, lightly hazy with a loose bubbly white head. Aroma is dominated by sweet, sugary blood orange flesh/rind, also some spices (coriander/clove/ginger?), a little bit more malt than a standard wit and limited esters. Flavour again dominated by sweet orange pulp and rind at first along with a little malt, but a bit drier from the middle on with some spice notes, slight grain, orange becomes a little more bitter and rind-like as well. Finish is fairly dry, slightly bitter, detectable alcohol but with a clean sweet fruity core lingering as well. Body medium, carb very effervescent, booze not completely hidden. Didn’t have last years, but compared to some reviews maybe this year’s is a bit fruitier? Intersting wit, surprisingly good, but a bit too much fruit to want more than one at a time. Would be great on a sunny early spring day outside.

(On tap at the brewpub, Mar 18 2014) Pours a slightly hazy orange-tinged rose colour with a lingering head of fine white bubbles. Aroma sour, raspberry-forward, white wine and wood present too, a slight funk but more on the sour side of brett - good concentration of fruit in the nose. Palate again has lots of raspberry, sour and acetic, wood in the middle with a slight white wine character, more vinegar on the finish provides a sour core with some tart raspberry lingering as well. Bit of barnyard-y brett in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel light and slightly watery, carb soft. No doubt you have to like sours to like this, but the combination of barrel and fruit worked well. Maybe a little bit more body might kick it up that last level.

On tap at Bar Volo, pours an opaque dark amber / mahogany with a small white head. Nose brings out quite a bit of brett, some vinous notes, and some very very subtle English malt notes. Flavour is similar, with notes of brett, light vinous notes, and some bready English notes. Fairly bretty, not really reminiscent of an English ale at all. Quite decent.
