Description
Proud Early Bird of Craft Beer - The Big Rock Story
17,000 years ago, a glacier carried a huge rock onto the Alberta prairies where none like it had been before. This "big rock" is the glacial erratic we take our name from, as no doubt, our founder's notion of creating a craft brewery in 1985 was a bit erratic at the time.
The rooster represents our early arrival as craft brewers. It's also a bit of a nod to the "cock of the walk" bravura that Ed McNally had when he started Big Rock Brewery.
We craft our beer with our brewmasters’ skill and imagination, utilizing local ingredients and innovative processes, all rooted in Ed McNally's original passion for excellence and in doing things differently and better.

Tastes quite round and blonde ale-like. But it is clean and crisp and full bodied. Sk co-op variety pack

Super clean, but super simple as well, just a very safe beer. Feels like a big brewery neipa. Sk coop

Poured from the tap @ Wings Burnaby. Clear blonde gold with small white head. Bland corn malt, no effort happy hour lager. Meh.

473ml can. Pours a slightly hazy pale gold with a medium, frothy, short lived, off-white head that laces. Sweet aroma of bready wheat malt, caramel, orange, apricot and floral hops. Sweet fruity flavour of grainy wheat malt, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pine and spicy hops in a dry, bitter finish. Light to medium body with an oily texture and average to soft carbonation. Missed the mark a bit. More of a Westie than a NEIPA.

Opaque gold, medium head. Looks quite good. Aroma has a bit of stone fruit but isn't especially bright. Body feels lighter than IPA. Bitterness is moderate. They're aiming for a fruity hop expression but it's hard to tell since it seems to have taken three months to make the 300m journey from the brewery to Legacy. So you can tell it's fruity hops but they are not poppin' fresh.

Poured from the tap @ HUB New West. Clear blonde with minimal white head. Mildly sweet corn malt, but mostly just watery and bland. No hops, so so boring.

Citrus tang that cloys on the finish. Golden pour with ok head. Wouldn't want to be locked in the trunk of a car with this beer. Bad aftertaste cloys for a while. Can.

Okay-ish beer. Drinkable, but not good. Middling and bland. Sk variety pack

Clean beer, mild hoppiness. Not a lot goin’ on though. Nothing special here. Very slightly astringent, i wouldn’t call this a good example of the style even.
