Draft at Olympic tavern. From notes. Malt dominated - earthy and nutty with a hint of caramel and burnt roast. Cool.

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home watching a terrible Bears game. This is a decent lager, mostly yeasty / bready, easy drinking and better than the average lager...nothing special for this one though.

Enjoyed on tap at Links Taproom in Chicago, IL. I didn’t take tasting notes while enjoying this one, but remember this being a very good, albeit yeasty lager. Definitely enjoyable and easy drinking, would definitely have again.

Bottle from Binny’s Mix-a-Six rack. Yeasty rye bread smell right under the cap. A little puff of foam peeps out of the top of the bottle before I pour it into my dimpled St. Pauli Girl glass. Opaque brown color, head just keeps kicking up as I pour a bit at a time. Taste has, first, suggestions of smoked or Scotch malt. Chewy dark bread, treacle, this kind of flavor brings out the alcohol no matter how much or how little is there. Still some yeast in the palate, so it’s not filtered too much. Rye spiciness is in moderation. A filling beer that would stand up to a broiled or stewed meat dish.

12oz bottle. Stained glass brown-amber body. Thin beige head. Sweet, caramel, toffee tones. Big malt sweetness, but remains drinkable. Pretty enjoyable overall, I could go for a sixpack of this any time. Rich caramel and brown malt tones, well lagered. Very enjoyable and well executed.

Bottle from the Southloop Binny's served in a footed pilsner glass. Brewed with Santiam hops it pours a light gold with great foamy lacing. Sweet bready vanilla bun aroma. A slightly rough mouthfeel and the taste is sweet fruity vanilla with some butteriness. Alright it is a refreshing beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Location: Draft at the Berghoff, 6/2/14

Aroma: The nose is fairly light, some grainy notes, bread, and a bit of fruit
Appearance: It pours a cloudy golden color with a decent sized white head and light lace
Flavor: The flavor is much the same, grainy malts, lightly sweet, fruit, etc.
Palate: The body is light-medium, it has an okay mouthfeel, and solid drinkability
Overall Impression: I wasn’t overly impressed by this beer. I mean it isn’t a bad one or anything, just not all that exciting. You could session this, but you could also probably find a better beer to session.

Notes just found on this. Rcvd in in - person trade with cousin in law from IL.
I had three of these beers, two were poured into pint glasses. One was into a stange. There wasn’t enough noticeable differences between the two glasses.
The appearance was a gentle hazy dark orange close to a pale brown color. There is a decent one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There is a decent light lacing trickling down the sides of the glass.
The smell had some good German malts coming through in a slight roasty to earthy rustic-ness.
The taste was quite flavorful as it presents a nice earthy to rustic sweet maltiness to lead to a slight comeback of the German malts.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation seemed good as there wasn’t anything to complain about.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good altbier to have again.

Many thanks to Eugene for the bottle - dark ruby pour - moderate lace - nose is sweet toffee/caramelized sugars, raisin, dark breads (pumpernickel, rye), light hop presence - medium body, low carbonation, fairly creamy texture - flavor is quite sweet, heavy on dark malt richness, toffee - there is some balancing bitterness and spicy and toasty rye - flavors of dark bread - medium high sweetness lingers throughout, despite some bitterness and earthy/spicy rye that tries to balance - finish is a little thin - rye lingers long on the palate - fairly solid dunkel, despite the occasionally high sweetness - the addition of rye is a mixed bag, but adds some additional complexity.

Reviewed from notes as I just found this next to the previous beer I just reviewed from my brother in law who lives in IL.
The three beers I had of this was poured into pilseners every time.
The appearance was a nice looking amber to copper color with a decent half fingered white foamy head that died practically immediately.
The smell had a decent looking roasted malt to bitter hops, it seemed well balanced to me. As it warms, there’s even a slight spiciness to it.
The taste had a nice sweet yet crisp maltiness running about my tastebuds. It seemed like the aftertaste had a long sweet roastiness running about it. There was a quick yet crisp dry finish.
On the palate, this one sits about a medium in body and shows a decent sessionability about it.
Overall, is this an altbier or a Vienna lager? Uh...kinda like the commercial description, I honestly don’t care as I’d have this again and would love to have it with some pepperoni and mushroom pizza.
