AF Brew is one of the pioneers of Russian craft beer revolution. We started the show in the ‘faraway’ 2012 in St. Petersburg, the most beer-focused and heritage city of Russia. Four years ago we started as a gipsy brewery having launched one of the first accessible craft beers in Russia – Ingria IPA, with the name dedicated to historically disputed region where the city of St. Petersburg is located. Our primary mission has never changed since then – we brew beer which was never brewed before and we keep no rules. November 2016 we turned the biggest page in our history: we finally built our very own brewery in our home city. The brewery is located on the historical site of 18-19th century city brewery and we did our best to make it a very nice and devoted place to brew and to spend time in. The open plan site with 20 hl brewing system and 400 hl fermentation capacity is supposed to grow twice in two years. It is already a home base for all our brews, collaborations and guest projects. It’s coupled with a barrel-room full of various wood-aging stuff and a taproom to drink, talk and have fun around.

Tap@Taproom Malmö, Malmö (28/01/2017) - fuzzy golden amber coloured pour with white head. Citrus fruity hoppy and malty aroma and taste, sweet with some notes of lemon, straw, lacto, hoppy bitter into the close.

6.7% ABV. Bottled a week ago. Opaque amber, big frothy head. Good retention. Nectary malts and citric hops both on aroma and taste. Solid sweetness and heavy acrid bitterness. Medium-bodied. Not refined at all. Straight-forward. Hard to drink.

Bottle. Amber colour. Medium head. Milk & honey on nose. Also spicy hop, tropical fruit. Light body. Sweet taste. Too sweet. Light bitterness. Strange. A dessert beer with American hops.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Grayish-amber, off-white head. The aroma if fruity - mostly apple - and slightly spicy/peppercorn. Juicy texture, again that appley fruitiness, very harsh boozy, spicy and bitter finish. Not so good.

Bottle produced a week ago. Hazy amber pour, fine dense milk-white well-lacing head. Stays for minutes. Fresh hoppy complex aroma with notes of grapefruit, passion fruit, pine, hop spiciness and light caramel. Light to medium body. Rather dry taste unites fresh citrus hoppiness with a solid caramel base. Tropical and resiny impressions contribute to the flavour comlexity. The rate of bitterness is at medium point. Well-balanced. And good.

Bottle. Nice fresh hoppy aroma. Light body. Lactic sweetness affects the usual pale ale hoppiness in a negative way. Light bitterness. Well brewing experimental batches is welcome. Not every one should make a drinker scream a wow.

Bottle. Black beer, brown head. Aroma: cream, coffee, roasted malts, minor coconut. Medium body. Perfectly smooth mouth feel. Nice complex flavour, that echoes the aroma. Additional brandy. Some hops. Sweet it is. Delicious nevertheless.

Keg at Taproom Malmo. It pours clear yellow - gold with a small white head. The aroma is soft, sweet, candied lemon, boiled sweets, sugary and a touch of cream. The taste is crisp, soft, sweet, creamy, lemon custard, straw, grass, floral, vanilla and candied lemon with a drying finish. Light - medium body and fine carbonation. Interesting, but not much depth to it. Good fun anyhow.

Keg at Malmo Taproom. It pours jet black with a medium tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, charred wood, light smoke, tar, meaty, bit of dark chocolate, tobacco and not much coconut really. The taste is slick, bitter - sweet, treacle rich roasted malt, tar, chocolate cake, coffee, creamy, toasted coconut, bounty bar, dried fruits and jammy berry with a slick finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Rich and pretty interesting. Decent flavour, but perhaps a touch sweet.
