The 50cl bottle pours with a clear pale gold color and supporting a nearly bright white head of foam. The aroma offers up some nice smelling bitter floral like hops some sweet breadiness and malts as well as a touch of lime like citrus. The taste delivers a pleasing hoppy bite to start and stays well ahead of the under current of malt sweetness. The bitter hops are sort of floral and have just a dash of earthy grapefruit peel. The sweetness has sugar malts mixing with a mild sweet malty breadiness followed by a brief moment or two of pear to sweet green apple esteriness. It ends with a nice lingering hop bite that washes away any sort of sweetness that has built up. Overall not all of the flavor components are what I find stellar in a Kolsch but the balance and execution I do enjoy. I’d do this one again.

Ein klassisches, deutsches Industriepils, das man in größer Menge trinken kann, ohne wirklich etwas zu merken -außer bald ein Kopfweh. Es ist nicht wirklich schlecht, aber einfach nur langweilig.

33cl bottle [from trade with Koelschtrinker] @ home. Clear yellow-golden color, full sized thick white head that leaves a fair lacing. Smell malts, lightly grainy, a slight hint of hop. Taste malts, hay, straw, grains, a decent bitterness and again a slight hint of hops. Medium carbonation, low to medium body.

Bottle @ Uncle Chris’ house in Fürth, generously given to me by Roman. Fairly clear, golden appearance with an off white head. Rich straw, grainy, hay, herbal hoppy aroma. Very grainy, straw, hay, pale malty, grassy flavor. Not all that bad. Thanks again Roman for the beer and for the tour of Cologne!!
