Description
Located in the heart of Nashville, TN, New Heights Brewing is a small craft brewery that creates ales we’re passionate about and crave—from intensely hoppy IPAs to crisp, clean ales and rich imperial stouts. It all began with a brew kit—that head brewer, Jeff Fountain, received from his wife, Tracey. After lots of corporate hours in cultures highly reminiscent of the movie Office Space, Jeff quit his 9-5 to do what really made him happy—working with his hands and giving back to the community by making great beer.

From his beginnings as a microbrewery volunteer in Carlsbad, CA, to brewer at San Diego’s Mission Brewery, Jeff honed his craft and discovered his own style. Through his job at Mission and his involvement in local homebrew clubs (Mash Heads), Jeff was exposed to some of the best and brightest craftsmen in the industry.

In 2014, armed with years of experience, research, plans, and thousands of backyard brewing hours to unearth the perfect first flight, Jeff and Tracey moved to Nashville to start New Heights Brewing—an ode to their San Diego neighborhood (our logo features the University Heights’ North Park Water Tower in front of the Nashville skyline), and a salute to starting new beginnings, making bold moves, and finding “home” wherever you are.

Draft at the source. Pours a clear, golden copper with a finger of foam that dissipates quickly. Light pine and citrus on the nose. Clean and crisp. Good citrus zest throughout. Prickly, pithy bitterness and passion fruit. Really crushable beer with the mosaic shining brightly. --- Beer aliased from original tick of Mosaic Pale on 21 Apr 2018 at 20:02 - Score: 7

Dark brown. Not much head. The aroma is a bit simple - some chocolate syrup, light fruitiness, and a light bit of barrel. On the palate, again you get a lot of wood, and a touch of fruitiness. The malts still come across like chocolate syrup, and that's the part of the beer that I don't really like much. It's too thin and underdeveloped on the malt side. I could see if someone thought the barrel was a bit too intense, but I personally like that character.

Tall can at Matt's. Canned on 2017-09-29. Pours a very dark brown with a weak dark beige head. Aroma is some berry notes and roasted malts. Tastr is moderately sweet, roasted malts, some chocolate, creamy and some smoky notes on the back. Good one.

16 oz. can, pours black with a small beige head. Nose brings out mostly toasted malt and a little oak - no notice of the berries. Flavour is along the same lines, with medium toasted malt, some dark berries, and a touch of oak. Nicely balanced, with light sweetness and moderate fruitiness. Solid stuff.

Draft at Craft Brewed. Pours a deep brown to black with no head. Lots of toasted oak in the nose, vanilla, cookies, marshmallow and chocolate. Super thin body, zero carbonation. Compared to the non-BA version this is the body is super thin. Lingering chocolate, but needs more body and carbonation. --- Beer merged from original tick of Tennesse Whiskey Barrel Aged Navel Gazer on 22 Nov 2017 at 21:40 - Score: 7. Can thanks to drfabulous. Pours a pitch black color with a small beige head. A big sweet nose, roast and vanilla. Rich, huge dark chocolate, heavy roast, the berries fit in perfectly, a nice tangy metallic finish. Damn, this is awesome. A dry heavy roast finish which is just lovely. Smooth. Damn good beer.

Pours a pitch black with a brown head that lingers for a bit, then dissipates. Big nose with cacao nib, black forrest cake, light berry and roasted malt. Some light umami notes and soy sauce as it warms, but not the main aromas. Fairly chewy on the palate for 9% abv imperial stout. Wow, really punches up for the abv. Some heat on the palate, but tons more cacao nib and some marshmallow. Faint oaky dryness on the palate. Damn this is a complete surprise. Very close to what Evil Twin does well. Ends with brownies and berry notes. Very impressive.

Draft at Craft Brewed. Clear copper-gold with a finger of foam that lingers. Big haribo gummy bear nose. Lots of juicy grapefruit and orange. Citrus all the way. Very West Coast. Good bitterness, light pine. Digging this one as well. --- Beer merged from original tick of Damguday II on 03 Nov 2017 at 22:50 - Score: 7. Original review text: Big haribo gummy bear nose.
