Description
The Verbeeck-Back brewery has been around since the end of the 19th century, when it became one of the most beloved independent breweries in the northern region of Belgium. The brewery was, is and remains a family affair: no monks or big corporations in sight. The secrets of its successes were passed on from father to son until they became fathers themselves... and so on. However, the sons of the sixties-generation had other plans. In 1966, the brewery dozed off for a short nap.

In 2015, a new generation has risen and so has the brewery. The Verbeeck-Back family bloodline was reinforced by the De Cock family. Together, they have formed the formidable, reassuringly Belgian-sounding name Verbeeck – Back – De Cock. VBDCK. This new crop of VBDCK heirs to the family tradition of Belgian quality and craft has literally been digging up history by its roots. They are ripping through the nostalgic silence with KEREL, the beer that says it all, and the transformation of the original brewery and family residence into a new place to stay.

Bottle, brew 18 01, 21.02.2020. Thick off white head. Dark orange-golden body. Effed up aroma, acetaldehyde, some sugary malty touches, citric-orange notes. Creamy. Not much bitterness. Better as it warmed, initially a 2.7 experience.

Bottle, shared with Vran. Misty amber body, thick, big, off white head. Aroma... Slightly sugary but clean maltiness freshened up by nice grapefruit notes, okay. Dry, perfumey taste, lean, mostly grapefruit. Mild bitterness. Actually far more drinkable and a better beer than the IPA, but still hardly an IPA.

Lichtbruin bier met mooie stevige schuimkraag. Smaak is licht bitter en ietwat zoet met iets van citrus en mango, maar dan niet zo zoet. Mooie smaak balans.

F: huge, bit tan, very long lasting. C: amber, hazy. A: malty, caramel, toasted onion, vaguely fruity, bready, bit yeasty. T: malty, fruity, orange, grapefruit bitterness, vaguely tropical fruits, spicy, bit caramel, medium body and carbonation is so high that it takes 7min to pour the glass, long lasting bitterness, not so fresh fruity as I expected but good balanced and taste is better than aroma, enjoyed, 33 cl bottle (5%) from Prik&Tik Kampenhout bottle shop in Belgium.
