Description
The Verbeeck-Back brewery has been around since the end of the 19th century, when it became one of the most beloved independent breweries in the northern region of Belgium. The brewery was, is and remains a family affair: no monks or big corporations in sight. The secrets of its successes were passed on from father to son until they became fathers themselves... and so on. However, the sons of the sixties-generation had other plans. In 1966, the brewery dozed off for a short nap.
In 2015, a new generation has risen and so has the brewery. The Verbeeck-Back family bloodline was reinforced by the De Cock family. Together, they have formed the formidable, reassuringly Belgian-sounding name Verbeeck – Back – De Cock. VBDCK. This new crop of VBDCK heirs to the family tradition of Belgian quality and craft has literally been digging up history by its roots. They are ripping through the nostalgic silence with KEREL, the beer that says it all, and the transformation of the original brewery and family residence into a new place to stay.

Light brown colour with thin lacy head. Aroma and flavour have a strange mix of grassy, resinous hop and some sweet raisins and caramel

Slow gusher. Amber colour with thin head. The typical fruity hop notes of an IPA are rather muted. Overly gassy. Much too yeasty.

Bottle shared at home. Hazy amber with fluffy white head. Sweet malts, grapefruit, rose petals, big floral, parfumey and soapy, plasticcy, bready, big Belgian yeast, tea leafy bitter, biscuits. Moderate sweet and over medium bitter. Medium body and above average carbonation. The design of the label and awkward medicine bottle form factor are the best things about this beer. Too good to be true. --- Beer merged from original tick of Kerel Grapefruit IPA on 03 May 2018 at 23:25 - Score: 6

F: thin, white, quick gone. C: pale gold, bit hazy. A: vaguely fruity like sour and sweet together, bit funky, peach, floral, bit candy. T: vinous fruity, peach, apricot, bit lemon peels, medium to full body, medium carbonation, nice, enjoyed yet taste is better than aroma, sample draft shared with Germany and BE RB crew @ ZBF 2018.

Thank you for sharing RB People! Sampled @ ZBF 2018. Golden, orange, small creamy white head. Nose is orange peel, sweet grain, lemon, yuzu peel, sweet BE low esters. Warming, massively alcoholic, low sake yeast, esters, grain, zero complexity, esters, oily. Better than I expected a 16 % Blond BE beer being from these guys but not great in general.
