Welcome to the rebirth of Charlottesville’s longest-running brewery and pub! South Street Brewery was purchased in 2014 by Blue Mountain Brewery, whose owners have a deep connection with this storied brewing establishment. Two of Blue
Mountain’s founders—Mandi and Taylor Smack—both worked for South Street over a decade ago, Taylor having been the brewer from late 2001 until early 2007. Our company is
committed to maintaining and revitalizing this important Charlottesville landmark and gathering place.
We hope you enjoy our expanded beer offerings, including venerated South Street originals that helped shape the Central Virginia beer scene, as well as new beers reflecting the diversity and experimentation that is the heart of American craft brewing.

Admin Note: Originally established in 1998, South Street Brewery was purchased by Blue Mountain Brewery owners Taylor and Mandi Smack in 2014. Taylor Smack brewed at South Street Brewery for 5 years before founding Blue Mountain.

Bottle from Kroger. Pours Amber with a large peach frothy head with lots of lacing. Smells of fruit cocktail, pine, citrus. Taste is soap, pine, grapefruit peel, fruit cocktail. Bitter. Tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Rustico Ballston, pours a hazy yellow/gold with some lacing white head. Nose has more old school IPA, citrus, soap, grass, some light esters. Flavor has lemon, grapefruit, sticky pine, soap, grass. Full bodied, sticky finish.

4 oz pour on draft at Spacebar. Clear golden amber with off-white head. Aromas of wine, grapes, light musty oak. Tastes of wine, grapes, oak. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Decent wild ale.

Keg at the brewpub. Hazy copper, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of wood, brett, funk, yeast, vinous notes. The taste is cranberry, grape, cherry, wood, brett, earth, mild lacto. Medium bodied, low carbonation, mild lingering tartness.

Bottle. Deep amber in colour, with a decent, off-white, head. Sweetish, caramel, notes, a touch of orange and red berry fruit and moderately bitter finish. Good.

Keg at the brewpub. Hazy pale yellow, large foamy off-white head, good retention. Aroma of strong grapefruit, pale malt, some dirty and acrid notes. The taste is grapefruit juice, lime, pale malt. Kind of a mess.

Sampling 12/9/15: Poured from a corked bomber purchased at South Street. Pours murky amber with a small off-white/beige head. Luscious aroma of dark fruit, grapefruit, dust, pine, roses, and cola. Taste is different! Mashed sour peaches, chocolate malt, dust, pine, honey, lemongrass. Very interesting, very different. Not 100% sold on it, but it sure is unique.

Grapefruit and lilly nose, marshmallow peep hints. Clear amber, medium head. Mango, grapefruit, and lillies, nice intensity. Grass finish. Full body, harsh, alcohol evident.
