Weizen pour at the brewpub. I thought I accidentally got the Gose. I see people arenβt into a sour Hefe, well thats what it is. Looks beautiful, thick and unfiltered yellow. Strong head never fully fades. Aroma is fully of lemon and citric smells. Lots of zinginess. Taste is a bit more subdued but definitely not a standard and be ready for a lightly sour surprise. 8/4/7/3/15
Had a non-infected version, even better. A pretty dark hefe, no light getting through. A beautiful mix of all the hefe yeast aspects with nothing dominating. Comes off as a great bready hefe. A thicker mouthfeel to go along with this makes it nice as well. Not a light hefe as too many brewpubs pawn off nowadays. 8/4/8/4/16

Weizen pour at brewpub. Comes to the table looking beautiful with a large foamy head and a dark brown color. Absolutely no clarity in the beer and it leaves a very sticky lacing. Aroma is salty and lightly sour (comes off as a faint Oud Bruin, I like it). Other earthy aromas present as well. Taste is light dark bread, with an earthy sweetness. A light, easy drinking beer with a nice earthy character and a cool light sour nose. I don’t think infection, just meant to be that way, adds to the refreshing level of the brew.

Growler brought back from the brewpub by beastiefan2k. Pour is a cloudy, dirty yellow-white with a very small white head. Aroma of strong orange lemon citrus mixed in with some breadiness. There is also a grassy coriander spiciness present. Interesting and "bright" nose. Taste is lemon, pineapple and orange juice with a thick breadiness. There is some citrus peel bitterness to the finish. The palate is medium without being heavy, and the sour tarness clears the palate excellently. Really nice, refreshing beer. Thanks for bringing this one back, Eugene.

Pint @ brewpub. The beer has a hazy straw color. Aroma is an earthy biscuit, which comes of nice. Its a thick maltiness (for a light beer) with the noble hops. Taste is dulled down just a bit and has a light seltzer feel to it. Overall very nice beer to drink with a nice medium body (which is surprising yet works very well).

Weizen glass @ brewpub. Comes to the table with a glowing yellow color and a small but strong head. It seems completely unfiltered because I cannot see through it at all. Aroma is extremely lemon-y. Thats followed by a lot of strong coriander. Lots of fruity esters as well. So its an earthy (coriander) and fruity bomb on the nose. Taste is a bit of salt (not sure if I would have noticed it unless I knew this was a Gose). There is light tangerine peel but it ends a bit empty. However, extremely easy to drink, can put down glass after glass of this and not get tired.
Re-rate: Summerβ09, a much more clean Gose, the tart comes out better and less fruit esters. It really comes off more as they describe a Berliner and Wit mix without the Belgian aspects.

Pint draft at brew pub. Pour is a cloudy hazed golden orange with not too much white head. Aroma of hoppiness and a nice subtle malt earthiness. Taste has a nice unfiltered chewiness that highlights the floral hoppiness, and the mineral earthiness. The palate is medium but still refreshing. The after taste lingers and really begs you to take another sip. I wish there were more unfiltered Lagers in the world. Subtle and satisfying, nice one.

Not much to say about this. It is almost clear. Low carbonation, and it tastes like any cheap pale lager. Not really crisp, which would have been nice as it would have meant some flavor.

Loads of citrus, especially with the lemon. But the beer has so much citrus on its own that there was no need for fruit. Lightly carbonated, and very sweet. Lacks sediment or the white head so common to this style. No banana and no real wheat. It looks filtered, no matter what the description says.

The best of the four I tried in one night. Light malt and hop aroma. Mild, pleasant grain in the flavor with a a nice malt and hop balance. Medium body. Roasted grain finish.

One of the better beers I tasted there. Dark brown color. Grain aroma. Flavor is also very grainy, like eating a handful of unprocessed grain. But this actually works for this beer, even if it isnβt as roasty as a dunkel should be. ----------updated Winterfest 2009. I like this even more. Lots of grain flavor with lager yeast. Full, thick palate, lots of malt and roasted character with a hint of smoke. Like something out of the Czech Republic.
