7-31-09 at the brew pub....its black...coffee aroma and flavor...licorice should not have been in the name of this( on their beer list its Stormy Roses Licorice Stout)...and I’m actually glad I put aside my dislike for licorice to taste this....its flavor is nice strong bitter coffee along with molasses...its smooth and goes down easy...a stickiness left on the lips.....according to the info on this beer......apparently adding licorice root is an old english brewing trick used to mellow the intense coffee-dark chocolate flavors of roasted barley in a dry Irish style stout

Draft at the source 7-31-09....A pretty solid amber with an off white head.....a muddle of hops in the mouth...the rye is in there but its expressed in a bitter form...tasty but unbalanced...I get a light hop aroma the more it sits.....it finishes bitter sweet...in the mouth, ok in every way

Growler from the brewpub courtesy of ruskiimperial on 07/07/2009. Clear dark amber body with ruby highlights and a medium creamy tan head. Big spice, orange, anise, molassas aroma. Sweet fruity flavor, some orange, more spice, a touch of gingerbread. Medium body with moderately low carbonation. Hides the alcohol really well, with only a touch of warming.

Growler courtesy of a traveling colleague. The beer pours a dark brown-amber color with a medium thin light beige head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Roasted malt, yeast and touches of fruit in the nose. Medium, dry body with flavors of dark fruit, yeast and malt. Bits of dark chocolate as well. The finish is roasty and yeasty with a mild chocolate coffee aftertaste. Interesting (more traditional?) take on the style, and it’s nice that they didn’t just slap the word "Baltic" where "Imperial" would have been more appropriate.

Growler from the brewpub. Very clear golden body with a medium creamy off-white head. Sweet yeasty, fruity, caramel, light alcohol, and candi sugar. Sweet fruity flavor, light yeast and hints of banana, some light caramel and a touch of candi sugar. Medium full body with moderate carbonation, very smooth. Seems to hide its alcohol fairly well.

Growler shared by MaltDawg. Dark black body (>44SRM according to my shiny new BJCP Color Guide) with a large creamy dark tan head. Caramel and roasty aroma with some fruity hints and a bit of molassas. Big fruity flavor, lots of molassas, caramel, light chocolate along with a nice bitterness to balance. Medium full body with moderate carbonation and a smooth creamy finish.
