650 ml bottle purchased from Candia Road Convince Store, Candia NH on the same day I purchased the Barrel Aged Wee Heavy. (about 7 months cellared). Dark black color with tan head that fizzled and died quick. Aroma is heavily charred ash, weak chocolate, mild oak and old cigarettes.

The flavor is exactly the way it smells. Thinner body then an imperial stout drinker would be looking for. Lots of charred malts, grain and very light bourbon barrel treatment (but I did taste it here unlike the Wee Heavy) Texture is also ashy and some dry bitterness. For the amount of money I spent on this bottle I truly was expecting a better BA stout. Middle of the road at best.

Flavor is a real disappointment, no truly, major disappointment. It tastes like oxidation has settled in but it’s not that old?? Cardboard, prunes and weak caramel. Very thin watery body. Ok, this was claimed to be aged in Some sort of barrel, what was it? oak? Bourbon? Rum? No... I get no barrel influence at all, nothing , nowhere. I paid $15.99 for this!! Yeah.... Never again, for any reason.

The appearance was a super hazy orange close to amber colored body with a one finger and a half worth’s white foamy head that once it dies after a good minute there’s a lot of thick clingy lacing.
The smell has a big wheat aroma covering over some pale malts and slightly fruity.
The taste is super wheaty with some slight sweet orange. There is some lighter wheat and somewhat citrus fruity aftertaste along with a quick dry finish.
The palate sits about a medium on the body. Carbonation feels kinda heavy, I’m really not feeling the love of any sort of sessionability with this one.
Overall, this is an American Pale Wheat ale and in my opinion has just a bit too much wheat that becomes too filling. I might not be an expert, but think Candia Road might want to tone down that wheat for a more balanced approach to the style. However, I’m glad to have tried a new company.

Bottle from the source. Pours a slightly hazy dark brown with faint garnet at the edges and a smallish but long lasting creamy tan head. Aromas of dark sugars and a hint of smoke with just a touch of earthy wood and bourbon character. The flavor is mostly dark and burnt sugars with hints of fruit and a mild tannic wood bite and just a faint hint of bourbon. Lingering sweetness mixed with a touch of ethanol in the finish. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a creamy sweet sticky mouthfeel. Decent beer. The barrel treatment is extremely subtle, I really would have liked a bit more character there. 16 bucks a bottle is probably a bit too high of a price point as well.

waxed 22oz bottle-Tampa Wkly @CCB-thin brown-dk brown. A-wood, peat, leather, some sweet dk malt-roasty. T-wood bite, peat, leather, dk malt.

Bottle from Candia Road. Pours a solid black with a decent sized tan head that quickly dissipates to wisps on top and leaves spotty lace. Aromas of ashy tobacco with bits of caramel and chocolate. Light fruitiness and light bourbon oak in the nose. The flavor is well unique. Very ashy smokey tobacco note. I literally conjure up images of ash trays as I sip this. Perhaps we went a hair too heavy on the roasted grains without some crystal sweetness to back it up? Roasted grain and bitter chocolate with a hint of brown sugary sweetness play supporting roles in the flavor here. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and a chalky ashy gritty mouthfeel. Not my favorite stout, this one needs some work. Even the barrel treatment is not very evident here.

Bottle from The Drinkery, Pours a hazy medium golden color with a huge fluffy off white head that takes forever to dissipate. Smells of light sugary malt with a sharp astringent phenolic aroma that I can’t quite place. The flavor is slight sugary malt with with a faint odd bitterness that I assume is spruce tips but its not strong enough to be sure. Phenols and astringency round out the flavor. Medium body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Well at least it doesn’t taste like liking a pine tree! If this wasn’t brewed with a Belgian yeast strain there is a wild yeast at work here. The phenols are strong with this one, as is the astringency. Swing and a miss.

22oz bottle pours a watery, opaque black with a ton of frothy, white head. Nose is very dusty, toasted bread, licorice, stale coffee. Flavor is very roasty, some smoke, dusty, almost a little ashy, licorice, toast. Roasty finish.
