I was surprised to find this at Yamaya for 410 yen a new release from Kizakura featuring the Jspanese minty Moutain herb Shiso... well checking ratebeer it is a re-release after a 5-year absence. It pours a bizarre light pink I’ve never seen in a shiso beer. The head is thick foamy white with a pinkish hue. The aroma is malty, sugary & some light shiso. The taste is gross, cardboard, chemical sweeteners, sugar, pink food coloring... think a pink zima. ugh. This is a total fail on so many levels, not least in that it has no real shiso flavor and is not at all beer like. Horrible.

Bottle at Aeon mall Kyoto. Served in a snifter. It pours a dark reddish brown with an ok beige head. Very much an amber looking ale. The nose is malty caramel, nice & appetizing. The beer is medium to full bodied with a nice smooth creamy mouthfeel. A solid biscuity amber ale with nice brown ale character.

Bottle at home. Pours like a nice glass of skim milk. Nose is rice, melon, and banana. Tastes of coconut water, rice, melon rind, tapioca, and a lactic sourness. Finish is dry and sour on lips. Mouthfeel is only slightly grainy. Kinda of odd duck this one.

Glass at Kappa Country. Very fruity, ginjo-ka nose. Estery, with peaches, melon, and lots of spice. Full estery fruit flavor, lots of evident booze. rounded and full. Good, but not great. A bit too boozy. Not such a prominent nama character either.

Sampled from a 750 ml bottle this sake poured a pale milky color. Only a mild level of viscosity with lots of particulates left behind. The aroma is creamed rice and a hint of perfume. The flavor has a pronounced alcohol bite with noted astringency followed by rice, vodka, soap, perfume and a hint of pepper. Medium length finish of astringent alcohol and rice. Medium bodied though slick in a way that seems watery. Ok.
