Draft to a plastic cup @ Nippon Craft Beer Festival 2014. Nice white top, looks hazy copper, quite light. Aroma has some nice flowery hops, fruits and melon. Like a dessert. Taste is nicely hoppy - but soon a bit disturbing grass flavour emerges. Otherwise it has a strong malt base, balancing bitterness nicely. Bitterness itself feels maybe a bit stale but not too bad. Beer itself is good, a bit sweet. Aftertaste is fruity, sweet and.. dry.

Bottled. Not sure if this is the same as Toshi’s IPA or meant to be different. Tropical fruit nose, mango, durian. Sweet malt but no caramel, biscuits, peach, orange, mango, tropical fruits. Sofy, silky body. Slight tropical stink. Interesting.

Bottle. A new one, it seems, and not clear how it is different from their two pilsners. Grassy hop nose, biscuity pilsner malts, rather grainy. Brilliant gold, medium head. Malty, grainy, with some fruit, citrus, hay. Somewhat like a helles. Light hop flavor, but it is there, gentle but persistent peppery bitterness in the finish. Good malt backbone. Nice lager.

Bottle from the Beer Club. Malty nose, caramel and chocolate. Dark brown with orange tints and a tall, fine, off-white head. Malty flavor, caramel, chocolate, light raisins. A decent dunkel, not overly rich or sweet.

Served as August Pilsner in 2008. Might be different now. Gold color with a bit of orange. Tall, white head. Very cloudy. Aroma with strong malt and fairly strong hops as well. Slightly sweet, with butter, yeast. Very rich, unfiltered Pilsner aroma. Strong malt flavor, with tons of hops. Slightly sweet, with great balance. A touch sour, but great hops for what is basically a bohemian style Pilsner. Strong hoppy finish, rather long-lasting. Strong hops for a pills. Medium body and carbonation. A little bit of fruit, this gate, and a touch of spice. Very rich, malty, hoppy Pilsner.

Draught at Q-Brick. Pale gold, with a fine, thick, tall head. Big citrus, coriander, and wheat aroma, fresh and crisp like Hoegarden used to be. Sweet and creamy flavor, with wheat, citrus, spice. Nice sour finish, but bready and sweet. Refreshing. Ok stuff.

Pours a nice copper color. Aroma of malts, caramel, earthy hops. Flavor is full of the malt, but also has some nice hop bitterness. Not your normal IPA. Good, but hard to down a full pint.

Draught at Beer Works Osaka IPA Challenge. Very malty nose. Huge caramel, rounded and buttery. Sweet, malty flavor. Light hops but rich, lovely malt. A bit fruity at the finish, with a touch of lingering bitterness. Great malt show, though a bit too unbalanced. Very British in style. Decent bitter finish. You don’t find IPAs like this in Japan regularly. (Note: had it again, and although it kept the British malt character, the malt flavor was minimized and wild hop astringency reigned. I think he has yet to figure our what he wants to do here!)
