Description
Founders Javier Aldea and Sami Claret have quite an out-of-the-ordinary corporate philosophy: they’ve been brewing beer without a brewery of their own – rather, they’ve been travelling the world as beer nomads and produced their creations together with craft-beer buddies elsewhere.
Now their idea has been given a home, so to speak – and the beer nomads have settled down a bit, because since 2018 the Nómada beers are being brewed in the pilot brewhouse of Mahou San Miguel's Alovera facility. This alliance with Mahou San Miguel (with a stake of 40% in Nómada) is intended to help the brand focus more closely on the Spanish beer market.

Bottle from Fish & Beer, Copenhagen - Fuzzy yellow/orange pour with a small white head. Good hoppy hit, grapefruit, pine, grassy floral nuances, sweet malt, with a great bitter finish. Certainly the best Spanish beer I have had so far, great stuff :-)

Pours black with a brown head of fine foam. A nice warm blanket of bubbles sticks around for quite some time. There’s a little bit of lacing. Very nice looking imperial porter. The aroma is a mix of caramel, chocolate, coffee and roast. It smells a lot sweeter than it tastes. It also seems simpler in the aroma. There’s a big doughy malt and caramel sweetness to the aroma that I barely find when the beer hits my tongue. The taste is actually pretty bitter. It’s primarily made up of roast and coffee flavors. There’s some dark chocolate, as well. Caramel is pushed to the back, though. It’s a big beer, and there’s definitely some sweetness to it, but overall, this is relatively dry for a strong porter. Mouthfeel is creamy and a bit lighter than expected. It’s still a nice, thick beer, but it’s much less overbearing than most porters/stouts around this abv. It’s a smooth mouthful of roasted malt. It’s a very well made beer, and I appreciate the thought and craftsmanship, but it’s not quite what I want in the style. It’s almost a touch too refined. That said, this is still a very good beer that particularly shines in the taste department.

Pours a light amber. Right around average for the style, if you discount the influx of nothing but light malt IPAs. Medium off white head. Decent lacing. Retention is pretty good. A coating of bubbles remains after a few minutes. The aroma is big on sweet tropical fruit flavors. Lots of pineapple and kiwi. Mango, lemon, tangerine, wildflowers. It’s not quite as juicy as I’d like, but that could be a function of the travel time and process. Pretty fun to try an IPA from a Spanish brewery, but I’m sure it doesn’t taste quite the same as a glass at the brewery. Nice yeasty edge to the aroma. Little malt character. The taste similarly has a ton of sweet, tropical hop flavor, but it’s not quite as bursting from the seams as it should be. It’s a shame, but I bought this bottle earlier today before it even hit the shelf at my local store, a single day after they received it. To be fair, the hop flavors present are very nice. Seems like some sort of new, possibly NZ hop. Some very nice tasty white grape juice flavor, though it doesn’t quite seem like Nelson Sauvin. A bit of pale, sugary malt flavor. Not very bitter, even in the finish. It dries out nicely, and there’s a bitter edge to that, but it’s mostly just sweetly flavorful hoppiness. Mouthfeel is fairly smooth. Easy to drink. I’m not blown away, but it’s fun to find a good Spanish beer, and I think that I might be blown away by a fresher taste. They’ve used some fancy hops and generally seem to have a good formula worked out. Tasty.
