Description
After years of talking about it as a family, the decision is taken in 2015/16 to make brewing the new family business. The family travel to various brewery manufactures and finally place an order for the system that is now in place in Kilcoole.Equipment starts arriving and the brewery is built and commissioned. Late 2017, test beers are put out at the Irish craft beer festival at the RDS. In 2018 Larkin’s formally launches into the market at the Alltech beer festival in March. Larkin’s is now distributed in pubs across Ireland as well as exporting to other markets in the EU.

Can. Hazy orange - gold beer, small bubbly pale cream colour head. Palate is light and fairly dry, decent fine minerally carbonation. Light malts, very light, still reasonably sweet, even a little thin creamy sweetness. Decently citric hops, some bright orange but as much dry pith. Light tangerine and mandarin. Pine. Tangy spice. Fairly dry finish. Not turning somersaults about the palate but there is still much to like here.

Roasty-spicy and chocolately, dark malty aroma, notes of cocoa, dark chocolate, hints of milk chocolate, liquorice, some caramel, a touch of burnt caramel. Taste is sweet-ish and roasty, caramel and dark malty, hints of liquorice, a touch of dark and burnt caramel, minimally - carbonation-induced - metallic overtones. Oily texture, minimally sticky palate.

Can. Color: Slightly hazy amber, white head, Aroma: Hop, rye, fruity notes. Taste: Dense mouthfeel. Spicy rye, wheat, subtle notes of coffee and fruity notes of sweetish yellow fruit and blueberries. Medium body, just below average carbonation. Medium bitter and moderate to medium sweet. Very lightly sourish. Pretty strange combination of ingrediënts, but somehow it works out pretty well.

Draught, 6.5% at the Beer Market, Dublin. Good fruity aroma. Cloudy golden colour. Stable white head. The flavour starts off fruity, and very nicely so. The bitterness is a little rough, but actually also good. Nice maltiness.
