Description
Offering unique hop-forward ales, crisp lagers, barrel-aged rarities and one of the Northwest’s most extensive wild & sour programs, Block 15 produces a range of artfully crafted beers, brewed with a nod toward fresh ingredients and fresh thinking.
We began serving up fine beer and food at our downtown Corvallis brewpub in 2008, and have since opened up a European-style pub—Caves Bier & Kitchen—as well as the Block 15 Brewery & Tap Room in south Corvallis. We are proud to have remained brewer-owned from day one.
Our 20bbl production brewery, built in 2015 and located in the shadow of the coastal range in south Corvallis, is the workhorse of our brewing operations. In addition to an increased-capacity brewhouse, our production brewery houses custom-designed Uni-tanks, a custom-fabricated mixing tank, a Meheen bottling line, and a Wild Goose canning line.

500mL bottle, pours a cloudy dull orange with a small white head. Aroma has some candi sugar, champagne notes, and a bit of wild yeast in back. Flavour has some phenols—some burnt rubber in there—with light candi sugar, and champagne-like wild yeast. Smells fine, but the phenols disrupt this big time on the flavour. Not good.

Pale, with a bit of haze. I like the fruitiness here, with good peach, pear. On the palate, there's a bit of harshness to the base, phenols. There's some good elements here, but the base sour has some ferm imperfections.

500mL bottle. Pours murky dull gold with a white head. Light chewy malts, herbal notes, and a nice wild yeast character. Flavour has a spunky wild yeast character, nice herbal tripel character. Definitely some phenols here, but doesn't really damage the overall quality of the beer that much. Quite good.

16 oz. can, pours a clear golden with a medium white head. Aroma reveals that wonderful NZ white wine-like hop tang—especially that Riwaka—with some melony citrus, and oily pine. Flavour is very vibrant, with tons of gooseberry-like hoppiness, melony hop tang, some citrus, a bit of pine, and a very thin biscuity malt base. I’m getting the Riwaka above all, but there’s other elements in there as well. Beautifully constructed, wonderfully vibrant, eminently drinkable.

473mL can. Pours clear pale gold with a white head. Loads of resinous pine with citus peels and some stonefruit on the nose. Flavour has lots of sharp pine, sticky resins, grapefruit peels, some stonefruit accents. Good biscuit malt body. Nice bitter finish. Excellent.

16 oz. can, pours a slightly hazy blonde with a medium white head. Aroma brings out bright piney, floral—almost soapy—notes, and bready malt. Flavour has big floral hops, some pine, and bready malt. Finishes dry, nicely floral, with amoderately bitter finish.

On tap at Beer O’Clock, pours a clear pale golden with a medium white head. Aroma brings out bright piney hops, crisp biscuity malt, and a hint of citrus. Flavour is quite bitter, with plenty of pinecone-like bitterness and a crisp biscuity malt. Long bitter finish. Not particularly characteristic hop expression but well-constructed. Good.

On tap at Loyal Legion - Portland, pours a clear copper, almost no head. Aroma has a complex wild yeast character, with lots of old woody character, gentle tartness, and a touch of berry-like fruitiness. Flavour is quite acidic, with intense woody oaky character, deep wild yeast complexity, just a hint of acetone, and some musty leathery character. Impressively unique wild yeast expression with an acidity level on the border between acceptable and overbearing. Very good overall.
