To say we're 'born to brew' may seem like a bold statement, but after dedicating over 150 years to the art of brewing, we believe it's true.

Coopers is a brewing family. Its in our blood. For six generations we've been custodians of a proud legacy that began in 1862 when Thomas Cooper brewed his first batch of ale. Our passion for brewing has kept us together and helped us through economic recessions, wars, government imposts, changing tastes, and the occasional hostile takeover bid.

Today, our unique brand of naturally conditioned ales and stouts are enjoyed around the world and we're still making these beers using the same traditional brewing methods that Thomas did. And when we say hand-made by the Cooper family', we mean it. If you visit the Brewery you'll probably bump into a Cooper who works there. While other breweries might make all sorts of claims about their 'origins' the fact is that we are Australia's oldest family owned and run brewery, and that's not changing anytime soon.

Clopudy golden with a small head. Sour banana and grassiness in the nose; Bitter and coppery in the mouth, with no distinct flavors jumping out. Mouth is nice, crisp, and bubbly.

I'm sampling this back-to-back with Lion Stout. This beer has a rather sweet milk chocolate aroma with notes of dark fruit and perhaps red wine. NOt as much licorice or smoke as I detected in the Lion Stout. The flavor here is lighter as well, and I pick up more "traditional" stout flavors (milk chocolate and roasted malts) as well as some malt vinegar, woodiness, and soy. A bit creamier than Lion Stout (which had an oilier body), but not as full-bodied or rich. "So thick you could just about eat it with a spoon" is not the most truthful statement. Still, I like these salty ales. Crikey!

Black with a light brown head. Woody, smoky aroma. Quited smoked flavour with some liquorice. Very tasty. Not unlike a watered-down Thisted Limfjordsporter.

2003 bottle. Appearance of a chilled chardonnay; hazy, pale golden-yellow with some light green tinges. Medium sized white head. Smells of light, mildly sour hops, light lemon-orange, touch of ripe pear and a bit of yeast. Begins very dry and papery tasting. No sweetness whatsoever. I was beginning to give up, but as I let it warm, there was a chewy, fruity sweetness, slightly fuzzy on the palate. Flavor blossomed in to chewy dry barley flavor and sour/bitter hops. Medium-light bodied. Lively carbonation. Rated against other styles: not so good. Rated against other blondes: top tier.

A pitch black beer with a fine chocolate brown head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of coffee, chocolate, and malt. The flavor is of sweet coffee with strong notes of malt and chocolate. A great flavor in a great beer - I want one more...

Dark brown, almost black, with a small, creamy head that fades quickly. Scent reminds me of cherry cordials, with a hint of vanilla. Yum! Nice, crisp flavor, hinted with coffee and vanilla, and a fantastic aftertaste. I wish all beers had this good of an aftertaste: not sharp, but smooth and mellow. Nice mouthfeel. Just right, not thick, not thin. Good carbonation. I hate giving all of the same number in my reviews, but this beer truly is an all 4. It's very drinkable, and if I'd have bought more than one to sample it, I'd have another right now. I did find this odd: there were leftovers in my glass after I finished the beer. They look like tiny bits of tea leaves or coffee grounds. Not really appealing to see chunks in my glass, but the damn beer still tasted good.

Aromas of plums, coffee, and malt. Black with no color. The head is tan with small pieces of black sediment in the foam and more at the bottom of the glass. Flavors of coffee, butter, and popcorn. Medium-full body. Better than I expected.

An unclear orange beer with a small disappearing head. The aroma is faintly malty. The flavor is fresh, malty and feels sparkling on the tongue. Not a special beer - but maybe my hopes were too high after reading Michael Jacksons recommendation.

Muddy brown. Aroma - banana, vanilla, slight medicinally phenols. Mango, date and passion fruit esters. Yeasty and phenolic palate. Dryish finish shows some alcohol.

2002 Batch 4, sampled June 2003. Typical Coopers - chunky with yeast. Murky copper with OK head and typical Coopers high carbonation. Surprisingly weak aroma, dominated by estery fruit of course: pear, banana, berries. Flavor is similar. Quite mellow actually, with a restrained and soft palate. Thick and satisfying, must be the yeast - its like eating a beer. All flavor notes well integrated. Moderately hoppy in a spicy peppery way, but bitterness is more apparent than hop flavors - it mainly balances the malt.
