Description
The first real malting statute was confirmed by the municipal council of Iglau, as the town of Jihlava was called till 1948, in 1579. In 1859, all 123 owners of brewing rights in the town and surrounding villages joined in a new brewery, the present Jihlava Brewery. The brewery in Jihlava was opened in 1861, but the brewery considers the year 1860 as the year of its incorporation. From its incorporation the brewery had mainly German owners. After WWII it was nationalised and then privatised in 1995. In 2008 the almost bankrupt brewery was bought by the Pivovary Lobkowicz group. Under the new owners the brewery returned to the production of beer according to old original recipes.

Bottled(500ml). -clear golden coloured, small airy head, usual N.A. nose, sparkling, slight sweet hop aroma, mild bitter watery finish. If we consider that this beer is made for Auchan and moreover that it is alcohol free, then it becomes more then beareble beer.

Bottle from Pivni Galerie, Holesovice: Pours deep golden with a firm, mid-sized off-white head; mainly malty nose (honey, bread, also nutty aroma) with some floral hoppy overtones and traces of alcohol; initia maltyl sweetness changes in "the second half": good, distinctive hoppy bitterness leads to a well balanced bitter-sweet finish. Well hidden alcohol, full-bodied and warming, but still refreshing. A goodie !

Bottle GBBF 2005. Very dark mahogany colour with some dark malt on nose, nice darkish beer, bit of coffee, slips down easily, but still a little thinnish in the mouth

Bottle: Golden coloured, thin, quickly vanishing foamy layer; bready nose with some hints of floral hoppiness; light bodied, bitter-malty taste; short, not too aromatic, bitter-malty aftertaste; a bit bland, but quaffable.......(Jezek means - as stated on the label - hedgehog)

(Bottle 50 cl) An ale??? No, I really don’t think so. According to the label it’s a "´Výcépni svetlé" which I believe is a light lager. Anyways, it’s not really worth the effort. Golden beer with a decent head. Surprisingly flat though with a rather harsh hoppiness. Easy to drink, but not very exciting.

Bottled. Golden colour. Aroma of grassy hops, oily butterscotch and paper. Sweet and soft with notes of oranges. Resiny bitterness in the finish.

Bottled, labelled Jezek Special Svetlé. Deep golden. Aroma of alcohol, paper and butter. Warming, butoverly sweet and the hops can’t balance all the sweetness. Low bitterness.

500 ml bottle, bought at Pivni Galerie, Prague. ABV is 8.0%. Golden colour, moderate head. Nice hoppy aroma, notes of caramel and berries. Flavour is hoppy (plenty of Saaz and probably other hops too) and moderately alcoholic (as expected from an 8% beer), but malty enough to sustain the hops and alcohol. Moderate sweetness throughout. Way ahead of most other high ABV golden lagers I’ve tasted.
