Sampled cask conditioned at Marble Arch, Manchester.
Golden colour. Strong ginger aroma. Medium bodied and sweetish, but really this is all about ginger. Not my cup of tea, but still I do appreciate this attempt of being different in the beer traditionalist Mecca of Manchester.

This is an organic beer; amber, malt accent (crystal malt); toastiness; light body.

When I was doing my master's the public library in Halifax had a copy of the first ever Pocket Guide to Beer. It was in the reference section, so I couldn't take it out. I tried to steal it, but that didn't get very far. One of the most interesting things about that first edition is that Boddington's was rated ****1/2 out of five. Today it gets * out of four. What happened? Big brewery magic. Well, Marble Arch has decided to recreate the old Boddington's, the one that only Mancunians would know about...here it is. Pale, quite dry, lots of hops, but underlying as opposed to up front. Good, quenching pint.

To say that this lingers on the palate is an understatement. The next six beers I had there I could have written down 'ginger' in the flavour of each of them, but I knew better. Very sharp ginger flavour - not quite as sharp as Grace Ginger Beer, if you've ever had that, but very gingery. Refreshing in the end when some sweetness comes in to rescue you. Pale colour.

Complex pint with fruit (berry, apricot), zesty hops, and clean pale malt notes.

Bright (!); malty, with earthy hops and a dry finish. Great pub, too, with friendly staff who love beer and plenty of guest handles.
