Description
The company was founded by Alastair Hook in 1999. He started the brewery in a small lock-up on an industrial estate, before moving to the Greenwich Brewery, and then to a site on nearby Blackwall Lane in 2010. It was purchased by SABMiller in May 2015. As part of the agreements made with regulators before Anheuser-Busch InBev was allowed to acquire SABMiller in 2016, Meantime was sold to Asahi Breweries of Japan in October 2016. Brewing moved to Fuller's in May 2024.

On tap at the Market Porter. I played a game with myself trying to guess who might of had this and I got the 3 previous tasters absolutely right. Smug or what? That was until Joeh had it before I could rate it. Gold with thin white head. Better than most straight forward lagers with attractive citrus aroma. Bit of vomit flavour in mouth with nice citric/lemon/lime bit on end. Not bad

A very dark brown beer with a thick dark brown head. The aroma is sweet with nice notes of chocolate with lots of cocoa in it. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of good dark chocolate combined with drying notes of ground cocoa beans, and notes of hard roasted malt giving hints of coffee towards the end. The end is dry and bitter and the notes of chocolate lingers for a long time. If You like chocolate beers, this is right up there with the best.

A pitch black beer with a slight reddish shine when held against a light source, witha dense brown head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of both coffee and chocolate - with the bitterness that both both bring. The flavor is sweet yet bitter - the bitterness coming from the coffee, which also lends notes of chocolate - dark bitter desert chocolate, more than coming from the hops and the dark roasted malt. But the flavor also has notes of roasted malt and rye bread. The bitterness makes the end dry, and the coffee notes lingers for a long time. Nice.

Bottle from Sainsburys Kidlington 26-05-06. A pale washed out hazy pink colour, aroma is of Raspberries but not too strong. Tasted softer than I thought but there was a slightly sour edge to it and quite enjoyable.

75cl bottle from Sainsbury. Copper colour with bubly off white head. Goldings/Fuggles strong hop aroma. Big harsh hop flavours. Very much in the style of an American big intense hoppy IPA. Not unpleasant, very in your face grapefruit hop. Herby/peppery. There is some biscuity malt to underpin the hops.

75cl bottle from Sainsbury. What a surprise this was on a Monday evening to find this and the IPA in my local store. Very dark brown colour with thick lasting beige head. Choc/coffee/dry charcoal. Intense flavours in the mouth. Good fruit, black cherry, plum. Really like it. Bit too carbonated.

Bottle picked up from Bicester Tesco 24-04-06 Very dark with a creamy head. Much more chocolatey than many of itโ€™s type but not unpleasant for it. I quite enjoyed this.

The first porter Iโ€™ve ever had from a corked 750, not that that makes a bit of difference - deep ruby color, with thin but lasting lace - very dry, espresso-like aroma, with some background date and fig, some chocolate - quite bright and fruity at first, but this settles as a dry, cocoa-like flavor and abundant dark roast coffee settle in - a very gentle, refined, subtle english porter - I like it very much.
