Description
The company was founded by Alastair Hook in 1999. He started the brewery in a small lock-up on an industrial estate, before moving to the Greenwich Brewery, and then to a site on nearby Blackwall Lane in 2010. It was purchased by SABMiller in May 2015. As part of the agreements made with regulators before Anheuser-Busch InBev was allowed to acquire SABMiller in 2016, Meantime was sold to Asahi Breweries of Japan in October 2016. Brewing moved to Fuller's in May 2024.

Bottled. Bright yellow. Grassy aroma. Medium sweet with clean, rounded mouthfeel. Grainy and solidly malty with notes of lemon. Medium bitterness. Too sweet to be a pilsener.

330ml bottle from Sainsburys. Pinky orange colour with a little white head. Smokey bacon and sour raspberry aromas. Quite sour and sharp. Sour in mouth but almost a cane sugary sweetness. Finish is raspberry sour. Interesting

660ml bottle from Sainsbury. Golden hazy with thin white quickly disappearing head. Yeast, banana aroma with a touch of spice. More banana fruit in mouth with lemon and vanilla followed by finish of clove and some hop. Not bad. Good on Sainsbury for contracting Meantime to produce an interesting range of beers

Bottled at RBESG. Dark brown. Restrained hop aroma. Very roasty and fairly sweet. Strong nutty notes, burnt salty finish. Like a more roasty and bitter brown ale.

(Bottle 75 cl) Amber golden and hazy with a very small head. Some caramel in the nose. Otherwise this is pure hops all the way through. I find it a bit one-dimensional and lacking complexity. 120805

(Bottle 75 cl) Unclear, greyish brown with an off-white head. Slightly ashy, burned aroma. Taste of very hard roasted malts, but yet sort of a soft mouthfeel. Some underlying sweetish notes of (dried) fruit and chocolate leading up to a very dry finish. 120805

Bottle, RBESG 2005 Grand Tasting. Deep golden colour. Pleasant hoppy aroma (my wild guess would have been Cascade and Chinook, but apparently itโ€™s just "pound upon pound of Fuggles & Goldings", so what do I know - it smells good anyway). Refreshing hoppy flavour, reasonably well balanced. Not the most bitter IPA around, but bitter enough for me. Nice.
