Description
Baeren Brewery is located in Morioka, Iwate prefecture which belongs in far north up from Tokyo Japan. We have some traditional and old vintage brewing equipment from southern district of Germany and carried here into Morioka. The traditional way of beer brewing still lives on here and Mr. Miyaki who got certificated as a Brewmeister in Berlin, Germany makes great and beautiful beers. The location of our brewery is perfect also for hiking because it is located near the center of the city and stands just by Route 4 but at the same time surrounded by a forest, which means you can easily and naturally feel the nature around.

Dark golden / brown, with orange. Very cloudy, tall foamy head. Fragrant aroma of banana, clove, all kinds of fruits. Slightly cake-like. Bit wheat malt flavor, like a banana cream cake. Sweet, just a bit cloying, but thick and rich. Could use a touch more balance, but generally good for a sweet-type weizen.

On tap at Wachi. Dark golden color with a tall, very fine head. Sweet, full malt aroma, with caramel, lots of fruit and good hops. Super rich, extremely fruity flavor, caramel, butter, and bubble gum as well. Round and mellow, but with good hopping. Round malt finish with lots of hops, though not overly bitter. Very good balance. Very full flavored, hoppy Dortmunder style lager. A few tenths higher than in the bottle (3.7)

Draught at Wachi. A beautiful, glowing, shiny black with a lovely, thin lacy head. Much nicer looking and more flavorful than the bottle. Rich burnt black malts, coffee, dark chocolate, cream/milk. Creamy, rich and thick. Excellent. (Old: Bottle, 3.7 points) Pitch black with a tall tan head. Burnt malt aroma, a bit creamy, some chocolate, caramel, a bit of coffee. Nice roasted malt flavor, dry, quite creamy. Light body. Not sweet. Chocolate and coffee come out as well. Medium flavor, not exactly full. Maltiness comes out in the finish well, with dry burnt flavors as well. Creamy and nice.

Dark brown with a firm, chocolate milk-colored head. Bittersweet chocolate, roasted malts, milk. Lightly roasted malts, chocolate, some smoke, and milk. Finish is roasted malts, and bittersweet. Nice, smooth body. Not the most complex stout, but easily drinkable and rather tasty.

Glowing hay in color with a quickly diminishing white head. Sweet aroma of banana, yeast, herbal spices, and clove. Full bodied. Flavor is a bit off, but not bad. Spicey, yeast, sweet malts, and some banana. Not a bad hefe, but I can’t say it’s worth picking up twice.

Dark hazy brown color. Caramel, whisky, a touch of bread in the nose. The mouth follows through with caramel, milk chocolate and brandy. Much more like a thin dopplebock. I like the flavors, but its going two different directions at once. Although enjoyable, it would be better to put the ABV up to 8% and call it a dopplebock.

Cloudy orange with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet malts, yeast, spice, fruit, banana, and wheat. Body is silky smooth. Flavor is banana, fruity, spices, clove, and wheat. A bit of a tart, bitter finish. Really enjoyed this one.

Tap at Aldgate. Black with a medium tan head. Roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, and some nutiness. Flavor is similar. Roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, slightly smokey. Finishes sorta spicy. Body is a little on the thin side. Really enjoyable.

Deep mahogany color. Black tea, noble hops and caramel strike me in the nose. This theme continues with an added dose of cookies, in the moderately thin and bitter mouth. On the way to being great, but still needs work.

I looked at the ratings before, I had this beer and didn’t have much expectations. WOW, nice surprise to say the least. Deep golden color with a fruity nose of apricots, strawberries. Fully body of apricots, strawberries and oranges. Rich malty finish with a lingering orange taste. Tried six years after the original rating and it isn’t quit as good as what it once was. Still not a bad brew, but just above average and lacking depth.
