Description

BOTTLE 50 CL from Berero. Latent gusher. Cloudy ruby with a bright pink head - does looks flashy. It does not smell like anything remotely resembling beer, closer to fruit juice, not a sugary sweet alcopop, not a messy fruit mash with the bugs going out of control, but cemented (wha?) real fruit wine, with a soft funky spice and only the best left from juice - velvety red berry esters. Same with the taste - tart but not acid, juicy prickly bilberry fruitiness, no malts or hops whatsoever. No wild beer or home wine off flavours. So unbeery, so tasty, so right.

BOTTLE from Berero. Almost clear dark gold, a little dull, white head. Sweet, honey glazed parsnip aroma, sweet herbs, peppery alcohol. Similar taste with sweet vegetable like notes and spicy alcohol doing a good job balancing it out without the help of hops. Nice warming finish. A really nice sweet and hot strongie; and really Belgian too.

BOTTLE 33 CL from Berero. Pitch black, espresso head. Loads of (cooking) chocolate in the nose, chocolate muffins, chocolate liqueur. Quite a bit of (straightforward) sweetness, alcohol infused berries, sweet coffee (that has a hint of that cheapo orzo/coffee substitute feel,) well hidden but just as well warming alcohol. The finish is light hop bitterness with a bit of astringency. Smells great, the taste and feel is a bit rough - still, a solid batch 1 strongie.

33cl bottle share @ Niamey's 3rd craft beer tasting, big cheers to Madalin for logging around 30 Romanians bottles to Africa. BB 30/04/2018 lot#02.

33cl bottle share @ Niamey's 3rd craft beer tasting, big cheers to Madalin for logging around 30 Romanians bottles to Africa. Apparently brewed or co-brewed with a Belgian guy living in Romania, hence all their ebers having a Belgian profile.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Clear dull amber, diminishing off-white head. Smells bready, macerated and boiled fruit, some Belgian spice. But no hops. Similar taste - candied fruit, macerated apples, moderate to strong astringent bitterness. A slight hint of dirty socks. More like a bitter Belgian Ale, than an IPA. Not bad, not good either.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Hazy golden, big soapy white head. Tart fruit as well as dusty peppery notes, nutmeg. Subtle fruity malts, massaging carbonation, robust spicy hops with a long bitter aftertaste. Could use more dryness and a more characterful saison strain, but it is a very nice hoppy belgian ale.

330ml bottle from the brewery (noroc, Cez!). Pours cloudy golden with a thin white head. Aroma: mild spices, yeast, floral/herbal hops, also slightly medicinal/perfumey. Taste: bready malt, yeast, spices, coriander, again there’s a bit of a perfumey note to this, not sure if intentional but it feels a little out of place, finishes with a spicy bitterness. Medium bodied, good carbonation, smooth mouthfeel. It’s alright but could do with some improvement.
