Tap at Keyaki. Pretty red color with lace. Deep crimson-purple. Nose of wine, citrus, grape juice. FLavors also fo wine and grapes and biscuits, then a smoky, burnt aspect that doesn’t fit but is in all their beers. Burning the wort in the kettle--or is there a bacterial infection that smells like burnt vegetables? Their best beer, but still a train wreck.

Tap at Keyaki. Cloudy pale gold-yellow with lace. Interesting, gardeny nose of honeysuckle, orange blossoms, and I guess some peaches. Weird but nice at first at least. Burnt flavor (in all their beers), astringent, and off. Ass-like horrible vomit-like finish. Damn.

Tap at Keyaki. Pale gold with lace. Nose of sweaty, long-worn socks, burnt Mosaic hops. Absolutely rank. One small sip almost had me spew all over the table. Immediate gag reflex that ,before this, only Craft Heart was able to cause. A vile and repugnant waste of Mosaic hops. This beer is so bad that 4 of us could not even begin to sort out what went wrong. Everything went wrong.

Part of a set of 4 Sky Tree Branded Beers: Spring Tree (grape 7%), Fall Tree (blueberry 5%) Summer Tree 5% & Winter Tree a 5% schwarzbier. I am not adding those I didn’t have as it is quite possible there are many alternates of them just with different kinds of labels. Bottle, 540 yen at Liquor Hasegawa - Solamachi branch. A decent looking clear gold pour but the head was thin fizzy & vanished fast. A sour fruity aroma, not really a pilsner as I was told. I will charitably call it a golden ale. The body is ok but the taste is sour & strangely ashey - it tastes like someone is smoking near me but I am sitting outside by the sky tree with no smokers in sight. So taste: sour fruit, ash, a bit of a tang, just wtf? Bizarre. Drain pour.

Bottle, sold as Ryogoku Beer with the 47 Ronin Label. Medium to dark brown with strong orange coloring. Nice thick head. Looks tasty—that impression ends here. Aroma of caramel, vegetables, and ash. Taste of burnt sugary wort, infection, compost, cigar ash, and ass. Very sweet and cloying. Drain pour.

Bottled, with the Ryogoku Sumo label. They claim it is a Belgian white. Tastes nothing like one. Sweet, fruity, buttery aroma is rather overwhelming. Flavor of burnt wort, sweet butter, fruit. Powerful flavor but not nice. Hugely cloying and unbalanced, and that was bad enough without the brew kettle somehow catching fire.
