Kaori no Mugi, made with cascade hops. 300¥ small at In Tha Door brewing. A pretty gold pour with a thick head. Light green citrusy hops with perhaps a hint of diacetyl. Minty, earthy, green flavor on a medium body. Sweet diacetyl that comes off grape like. Not terrible but off.

On tap at In tha Door Brewing in Kobe. 吉備の烏 Kibidote Kibi no Karasu Crow Stout a deep black with a creamy tan head with red accents. Savoury chocolate & diacetyl nose. Medium bodied, fruity soda, butterscotch and chocolate flavor makes it seem more like a cola than a beer. It has hints of roastiness in the finish, overall not too bad in flavor but just kind of odd and not terribly beer like.

On tap at In tha Door Brewing in Kobe. It pours a nice gold that is almost identical to the Kaori no Mugi and actually I wound up being served this by accident. The lovely & unmistakable aroma of fresh potent ginger told me this was definitely the ginger beer. It’s got a great clean ginger aroma & decent flavor on a medium body. I feel that the ginger probably masks any production flaws... which I assume are there judging by the other 2 beers from Kibidote I had at In tha Door.

The nose is sherry, some malt with a slightly harsh ethanol/nail varnish edge. Medium bodied with a decent carbonation. The taste is off, sherry, nutty, metallic, sour, not good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I wanted to try the new Yo-Ho saison tonight but my local Lawson didn’t have it... disappointing. But a big thanks to Mick for hooking me up with this Kibidote Onzaki English Pale Ale from his trip to Okayama. It pours a lovely honey gold with a thick foamy beige head that lingers. The aroma seems quite spot on with a bready fruity malt caramel. Medium bodied, the carbonation is quite round and the taste is much maltier and richer than I expecting. This isn’t really my favorite style but I gotta say they seem to be doing something right. A bit nutty, very malty fudge like caramel some boozy ethanol which is an off-flavor but not that much then a neutral bitter bitting finish. Not bad, I look forward to visiting their brewery and trying more of their beers sometime.

Draught at the Ji-Beer Festa in Hiroshima, 2012. Cloudy greenish-yellow with a high, fine head. Huge peppermint-spearmint aroma. Some honey, a little bit of bread. Flavor is unbelievably, cloying and sweet. Mint, honey, very fruity. Hard to drink.

Draught at the Ji-Beer Festa in Hiroshima, 2012. Very cloudy yellow. Aroma of peach, dust, a little bit of funk. Homebrew taste with some sweet peach, a little tang and funk. Not terrible but a little bit off—extract?

Draught at the brewpub. Dark yellow with ornage. Cloudy. Sweet, fruity, slightly winy aroma. Strong! Fruity, sweet, nice flavor. Rich, thick body. Still imperfect yeast-wise, but decent stuff.

Tap at the brewpub. Pitch black with a smooth, nice tan head. Sweet, caramel malt aroma. Not stout-like but nice enough. Sweet, creamy, slightly funky flavor. Again not at all like a stout. More a brown ale? Tangy, roasted finish.
