Light Cider from Nine Pin Cider Works

Can from a mix six via Wegmans in Syracuse. At the hotel. Plastic cup. Clear, medium gold, thin but ample head. Sugar & browned apples, lemon, earth, old spices. Dry, medium acidity, round, low tartness, lingering aged/old flavor, very light lemon, chalk, bitter finish that is pretty good. It just tastes & feels watered down. Carbonation is okay, alcohol is whatever. Pool beer.

Bottle from the Brooklyn Cider House Holiday Fest, RIP. Duvel glass @home. Frothy pour. Lingering, crusty lace. Oaky, menthol, tannic, browned, steel bittersweets & dessert apples. Same minty, bitter, leafy, oaky, metallic, super dry flavors. Earthy & bittersweet, leaning bitter. Faintly tart. Lingering menthol. Mott's dry finish. Some expected oxidation. Nicely carbonated, very wet feel. Hidden acidity. Appropriately boozy. Always love it when brands try harder. Good.

Bottle from the rep @ NYC cider week open house. Tulip @ home. Golden, oily, body. Champagne-y, impressive, lingering head. Smells of apricots, sour/tart apples, dry yeast. Green & very mineral-y. Texture is brut & bubbly. Pithy, bittergreen bitterness. Tight bubbles, very iron-y. Lots of acid. Taught. Classic bitter apple flavor. Surprised by this. Not perfect, but why bother with the other crap when you can make this? Nicely sized bottle too.

Bottle from my local gentrified supermarket. Ommegang anniversary glass. Clear, pale gold spritz with a little sediment left in the bottle. 2nd pour was just a bit opaque. Smells of white wine grapes, gum, banana & minerally apples. Obvious pineapple in the front, turning green apple, then gummy & yeasty. Spicy, dusty, lingering yeastiness. A touch more then semi-sweet, juicy, but helped by aggressive carbonation & dry finish. Good.

(tap) clear, bright deep yellow colour with a small white head; aroma of cucumber, then apple; light, balanced flavour with no finish, quite interesting

Single can from Covenhoven. Pours something of an iced tea color, clear, vibrant, hinting at peach & purple. Smells like white zin. Sticky sweet smelling, with a penetrating tannic scent. Thin mouth, lingering sharpness & acidity. Sugary, but not cloyingly sweet. Tastes like a more robusto version of the apple-grape box drinks we had as kids, Cheap, headache-inducing wine is all I can taste. White Zin FTL.

Draft @ Community Beer Works. Clear greenish yellow. Apple juice, fairly sweet, apple peel. Very slightly acidic.

Barrel Aged Strawberry Cider from Nine Pin Cider Works

On an un-tameable tap @ Covenhoven during NYC Cider Week. Not the regular bottled strawberry stuff to my understanding. Once the line started behaving I was served a slightly opaque, light-colored brew. Smelled of mellow cider, macerated & cooked strawberries & lactose. Tasted of mildly acidic apples, faint bourbon(?) & sweet strawberry essence. Low to medium bitterness. No candy or "natural" flavorings it seems. It ended with a dry, yeasty trail. Way better then I expected. Strawberry is usually horrible in most everything fermented that I've tried. Quite tasty.

Braeburn Maple Barrel-Aged Cider from Nine Pin Cider Works

On tap at Covenhoven. Goblet pour. Clear, pale gold body. Floral, gentle, unassuming scent. Taste is generically tart, with remnants of yeast & a sublet maple aftertaste. Light wood on the finish. Sparkly, harsh carbonation Soft flavor all around. Not bad, but I didn't think much of this.

Tap at Coles in Buffalo. Clear pale gold. Aroma is apple, somewhat sweet. Flavor is the same. Sweet apple, skins and all. Plain but drinkable.
