Flip-top bottle: Pale golden, slightly hazy and orangey, small foamy layer; fruity nose - yes - bananas and cloves, but also bready and a bit tart; sweetish, almost bitter flavour, light bodied; short sweet fruity finish with a light tartness and a light, but distinctive and lingering bitterness. An unusual, but nevertheless pleasant Weizen............

Flip-top bottle:Pale golden, slightly hazy, smaller white head; mild fruity-worty-grainy nose with a metallic hoppy touch; delicate sweetish flavour with a distinctive bitterness; lingering fruity-bitter finish. A quite dry and hop-accented Kölsch - quite a good example of this style......

My bottle speaks of 6% ABV only Quite hazy darker orange; small white head, slightly irregular. Very sweet, bread, fresh breadyeast, and, somehow, the smell of CO², before reverting to pure breadyeast. Very one-dimensioned. Again bread and breadyeast, this time with a surprising sourish edge, not quite sure whether it is lactic, wheat, CO², or a bit of all of them. Maybe, as Olivier says, cassonade sugar flavour, but without any sweetness. And, warming up, serious signs of oxydation. Somehow, I do not think this general flavourprofile is deliberate... It’s - refreshing, for want of better, but far from convincing. A slight slickness but generally not much body. Falling flat, just as the Wiess, whilst initially a bit spritzy. Hmmm. Thanks for bringing this over, Sebastian, but I fear the people at Hellers have some serious polishing - reworking - to do.

Hazy dark yellow, nearly orange, very well-carbonated to good white head as whipped eggwhite. Fresh yeast, bit grassy, garden herbs and a little touch of BOTH limes (citrusfruit and deciduous treeblossom). Citrussy freshness, bit of malts, wheattouch, but without any discernable sweetness. There’s even hints at some spicey bitter (rootspices), but very subdued. Bit yeasty at the end, but not estery. Very fizzy initially, to the point of disturbing the balance, mineral water force-gassed like, but disappearing quite fast, leaving it fairly flat. Yeast gives some creaminess. Very refreshing, even if not truly great. They have some problems with carbonation, obviously. Still, I could down quite a few of these on a warm summer afternoon...

Huge, very white & dense head; very pale amber-gold beer. Bit creamy, quite "inoffensive" nose; slightly spicey, garden herbs and hay. Rather sweet, with soft-sourish (CO²) and herbal lining. Background is pure malts, both pale and light-coloured. Again hayish flavour, retronasal even a bit smoked. Quite carbonated, light MF. Unobtrusive Kölsch, sweetish; has to be compared to their Wiess, the unfiltered version. Thanks, Seb.

Das Aussehen ist erst einmal nicht der Knaller, die Schaumkrone ist für ein Weizen lächerlich. Der Geschmack allerdings überzeugt ein wenig mehr, es beginnt mit einem recht fruchtigen Aroma, dass zum Mittelteil hin abschwächt und einem mittelhopfigen Aroma weicht. Insgesamt ist das Bier recht mild, im Nachgeschmack leider Gottes aber auch wässrig. Ein recht einfaches Weizen, dass ich mir im Sommer trotzdem gut vorstellen kann. Aber wohl nur im Sommer. (swing top bottle at the Hellers Brauhaus, Köln) Dark brown colour with a very short off-white layer. Shy roastmalty aroma with toffee. Moderately sweet roastmalty taste with strong notes of toffee, quite dry, slightly bitter and hoppy finish.

Bottle (@ Hellers, Cologne) : Dark amber coloured, thin, quickly vanishing off-white head; shy malty nose with a "roasted" touch; quite dry malty start; slightly bitter flavour; short, toffee-like, slightly bitter finish. Not bad, not overwhelming

On tap at the brewpub (during the "Off the beaten track Kölsch Tour") Pale golden coloured, thin lasting foamy layer; sweetish, kinda perfumed, fruity nose; fizzy sourish and bitter flavour; mild and fruity finish with a distinctive bitterness. Not so harmonic.............

(tap at the Hellers Brauhaus, Köln) Clear and pale golden colour with a short foamy white head. Sweetish malty nose with a perfumed hoppy note. Harsh carbonated, light bodied mouthfeel. Initial sweet malty taste, traces of fruitiness, not very round dry, fizzy and slightly skunky finish. There are better beers of this style to get in Cologne.
