330 ml bottle from an omiyage shop in Amanohashidate, northern part of Kyoto prefecture. Sold as Amanohashidate Premium Beer Kölsch - but I am pretty sure this is the same as Tsuyama Itsuha Kolsch. Pours light straw, transparent, quite a lot of white bubbles on the top. Malty grainy nose, pretty much just that. Tastes grainy, some tarter notes, crisp bitterness - and something out of balance. Not the greatest beer, somehow still drinkable.

330 ml bottle from an omiyage shop in Amanohashidate, northern part of Kyoto prefecture. Sold as Tango Premium Beer Weizen Alt. Pours amber, some white foam, finger width and persistent. Malty-bready nose, some light bitterness. Tastes pretty much the same, kind of what I expect from an alt, bready, some light hop kick, dry finish. Quite nice actually, albeit pretty basic.

Cloudy dark amber color. Subdued, somewhat malty nose. Very carbonated mouth, malty with some caramel and fruit, but pretty lame.

Ummm, shouldn’t this be listed as Weizen Alt as per the label??? Or at the least have that listed as an alternate? This listing was a bit tough to find... anyways, bottle from the Hankyu Department Store in Umeda. Tsuyama Draft Beer’s Weizen Alt (from the Tago Brewery Company) The look is much more alt than weizen being an opaque dark brown. The nose gives you some wheat & spice but also lots of bizarre fruits & off-flavors well not off but more like an over-active yeast. Some maltiness also comes through. Fairly light bodied with a watery mouthfeel. The flavor is sour, malty caramel, light cocoa and a somewhat bizarre weizen clove type flavor. It’s kind of strange and also exhibits some buttery diacetyl. I am guessing it is an alt made with a weizen yeast? One of my least favorite styles merged with one of my favorites yet I wind up with a mish mash of eaches bad points - while it isn’t terrible it’s not much more than average... points for trying something different though. Maybe this should be part of a separate entry as Weizen Alt?

Draught at the Ji-Beer Festa in Hiroshima 2012. Golden color. Fruity, malty aroma. Clean, fruity flavor, light bitterness. Refreshing and clean, if a little bit generic. Decent.

As Tsuyama Horumon Udon Beer (Dry stout), draught at the Ji-Beer Festa in Hiroshima, 2012. Nice, slightly cloudy head with a thick, fine head. Aroma of cocoa mostly, a little coffee and cream. A bit of fruity sweetness, chocolate, coffee, cream. Decently made dry stout.

Medium to dark copper color, tall, super-fine head. Very faint aroma of caramel and fruits. Dry, austere, caramel and hop flavor. Very dry finish with a bit of caramel. Smooth as silk in the mouth. Overall, a dry, smooth, mild beer with reasonable flavor, but not quite enough.
