About
Twin Sails Brewing joined Port Moody’s “Brewers Row” late in 2015, opening right next door to Yellow Dog. The name of the brewery refers to its founders, identical twin brothers, as well as the common sight of sailboats that can be seen on the waters of the Burrard Inlet right out front of the brewery. Twin Sails focuses on progressive American IPAs and stouts and have recently implemented a wild barrel program. They are always trying to push the boundaries of what can be done with beer in BC. Quality comes first and foremost, but in the end, it’s just a bunch of guys and girls having way too much fun brewing beer.

Can from Legacy LRS, Vancouver
Blond-orange colour, murky; the head is persistent. In the aroma, some orange peel. It's too dry, so the oats come through quite harsh, chalky, and the hops are not juicy, they taste a bit herbal, and with bitter citrus. I don't know what to do with this one.

Poured from 355mL can (thanks fiery1). Near black with small beige head. Bourbon, vanilla, a very well balanced imperial stout. Enjoy it slightly better than the 2021 (Heaven Hill) based on overall balance, but very similar.

First rating: Poured from 355mL can (thanks Fiulijn; side by side with 2019 and 2021). Near black with minimal beige head (the least head of all three versions). The most coconut of the three versions, also slightly boozier, but the Basil Hayden barrels are really balanced. Solid all around, my favourite of the three versions (wish I had bought a flat of this).

Purple, not much head but it looks good. Aromatic raspberries on the nose. On the palate, it's quite tart, with lots more raspberries, and a slight bugginess.

Poured from 750mL bottle. Hazed bright purple red with small white head. Lots of raspberry on the nose that permeates out as soon as you crack open the bottle. Cranberry and raspberry taste. Really nice cohesive stuff.

12 oz can poured, gifted by mcberko. Thanks! Quite the treat here. Dense, jet black appearance. Big whiskey nose that jumps out during the pour. Really strong indications, with some smooth chocolate and dark, bold fruit notes. Coconut hides in the aroma for me, but it headlines the flavor. Toasty coconut front, with a slightly sweeter finish. Potent booze, but not harsh in any way. Blends well with the whiskey, coconut, chocolate, and semi sweet character throughout. A bit of a doughy finish. Overall, a really nice brew here, that really captures the perfect amount of coconut. Solid ratio with this excellent stout.

Purple and kinda murky. Not much head. Some orangey hop notes and a fair bit of blueberry. On the palate it’s what you’d expect - alcohol strength, lots of blueberries, vanilla and a bit of hop. So it achieves its goals. Whether with enough style or refinement is another matter.

473mL can, pours an opaque murky orange with a medium white head. Aroma is quite chalky, with muddled earthy hops and bready malt. Flavour is a little better, with juicy citrus hops, earthiness, and bready malt. Reasonably juicy but also too muddled and chalky for me. Another typical hazy.
