Draft 10 oz pour at the Alibi Room. Pours a near black with a big bubble head. To be honest, I hadn’t heard of this brewery, but I’m on vacation and I miss my dog, and this beer reminded me of her, so I ordered it. Glad I did. Medium level smoked malt aroma. Light body for a porter. Has a smoked dark lager feel to me, but quite tasty either way. Perfect amount of smokiness to be honest. Much better than what I was expecting, for some reason. I had no reason to doubt. Good beer here.

Draft - Light soapy peel notes. Cloudy gold with a nice white head. Tart and acidic with a bit of funky feet notes. Dry finish with a bit of clinging feet.

Last can of the season, I suppose.
Smooth and balanced, the hops are a bit resiny, the fruitiness is just mentioned, the malts don’t play an important role, it hs a fundamental earthy character, and the freshness is missing. It wasn’t spectacular one month ago, it’s not better today.

2016-10-11, can, 8-4-7-4-15=38
The hops are more resinous than fruity or citrusy, and the malts are a bit biscuity; at least the mouthfeel is very dry, but still this beer has a lot of hops, but doesn’t have bright hop character.

2016-10-03, draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver, 7% ABV, 10oz, 8-5-7-3-15=38
Hazy golden color, small head. The hop aroma is fresh and fruity, but the flavor is slightly earthy, and the final lightly vegetable. Very good, but I liked it more last year.

2015-10-12, can from Steamworks Liquor Store, 8-4-8-5-17=42
Hazy golden color, small head. The hop aroma is immediate, as soon as the can is opened; pungent and fruity hops in the nose, nice piney resins. The mouthfeel is off-dry, not weak; it has some pleasant biscuity and crackery malt in the background, while the hops are loaded with resiny and piney quality, a lot of citrus peel too.
This beer, this year, is one of the very few in BC to capture the essence of fresh hops and deliver full hoppyness; I could see also this hopping with a bolder blond IPA, next time.
Excellent.

Black color with thin tan head. The aroma plays with roasty notes; the body is rather thin, the flavor blends equally some roasted malt and dark chocolate, the mouthfeel is soft, in the final there is a trace of roasted coconut and liquorice.
Nice.

Cask at the brewery
Black color, dissipating head. The aroma is chocolatey; the mouthfeel is lean, dry, but soft; it’s mostly dark chocolate with moderate coconut, and luckily the banana is not evident.
Nice delivery from the cask.

Amber, beige head. Big piney musty cat pissy nose. Medium bodied, quite crackery piney citrus hop profile A well made beer, but I didn’t care for.... gave mine away

Cask at Darby’s Public House, Vancouver
Blond color, cloudy, with medium head. The aroma is fruity like no other beer, mellow; strawberries and tropical fruits. Not much malt flavor, moderate bitterness, soft and off-dry mouthfeel, and a bit of fruit salad flavor too. The final is less interesting.
Starts well, then declines.

Draught at 12 Kings, Vancouver; 420ml
Hazy amber color with thin head. Pungent hop aroma, similar to NZ hops. Lean body, with a nice dry caramel component, that doesn’t cover the hop but blends quite well; the hops are very resiny and piney, and citrusy. Obviously I’d like to see such nice hopping on a crisp blond malt body, but this one already shows good quality.

On tap at 12 Kings, pours a clear copper golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of piney hops, some leafy notes and biscuity malt. Flavour is super fresh, with loads of piney and leafy hops, and just enough bready malt to back. Super fresh and flavourful. Excellent stuff.
