Unclear golden with fine white head. Smooth soft and creamy texture. Filling & complex (well balanced) Little malty sweetness before the hops kicks in. Soap and fruits appears. Very pleasant lasting finish! Great!

Bottled (brewed 2 Aug 2006). Opaque black, decent tan head. Very yeasty (and vegetably) aroma (also lots of yeast stick in bottle) with notes of toasted malts and chocolate. Very bitter flavor. "Floury" palate. Roasted malts, yeast. Long bitter and roasted aftertaste. I have to buy another bottle and cellar it till Xmas, this one was quite yeasty.

Bottled. Pitch black colour, big brown head. Aroma is caramel, spices with slightly roasted malts and alcoholic notes. Flavour is roasted malts with some caramel and licorace. Spices become present after the roastiness and caramel vanishes. Pleasant and smooth, but it does feel "quite" standard compared to a few of the other Xmas theme beers from Nøgne Ø. Hides the alcohol very well.

Dark brown color; huge thick head. The aroma has some caramel, but it’s lacking. Medium bodied beer, with a very strong caramel taste, a lot of malt and some liquorice too; high bitterness (good quality), but a bit metallic at the end. Overall, a powerful and good brew, without doubts.

Rating #3000. Bottled, alc. 9%, batch nr 246, brewed 07/2006. Opaque black, huge tan head. Strong licorice and dark chocolate aroma, also some iron, tar and smoke. Full bodied. Salt licorice, roasted malts and cold coffee. Then in the aftertaste hoppy bitter burst dominates with cold coffee and licorice. The alcoholic kicker is giving an extra punch. Aftertaste lasts ages. Good stuff.

Bottle. Sweet, teaish, fruity aroma. Cloudy pale orange colour. Small white head. Quite bitter, but nicely so. The late bitterness gets quite powerful, but not bad. Aroma hops are overpowered by the bitterness.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a very dark, reddish brown with a small, creamy head. Slightly sweet vanilla aroma - perhaps with a whiff of wood. Rather full-bodied with very sweet roasted malts. Vinous notes of raisins in rum combined with very distinct vanilla notes. Nothing burned or really bitter here. Quite delicious really. 151006

Hazy, light orange with a lasting white head. Grass, leather, apple aromas mix with a perfumed, spicy coriander. Very complex flavour with sweetness balanced by pepper, bitterness and acidity.

murky brown with great bubbly white head. Aroma of malts & hops. Great filling texture - which was smooth. caramel feel. Bitter hop dominans. Warmth from alcohol. Some citrus notes. Lasting finish. Strong beauty!

Comparing to the Pale Ale, I thought this has more depth and flavor with more assertive hop character. I thought this was particularly bitter for a bitter, but I don’t mind at all. Nice beer.
