This is the most versatile beer-to-food from Nøgne-Ø. Dark brown colour. Full bodied malty aroma and taste. Recommended to most food - perhaps most suitable to meat. KI=2.

Bottle. Malty, soapy aroma. Almost black colour, no head. Also soapy flavour. Would have been very good without the soapiness. Nice mouthfeel, low carbonation.

Bottle at Patricks Pub, Kristiansand. (as Klin Kokos) It pours a black body with brownish notes, topped by a small, dark beige head. Mocha, vanilla and black coffee dominates the aroma, very low on coconut I think. Sweetish, roasted and burnt flavor with coffee and vanilla, also here the coconut is more or less absent I think. Not that it matters, I’m more fond of vanilla than coconut. A bit thin in the mouth, without being watery, and a finish with coffee and burn malt. Rating: 6-4-6-3-13-3.2. Didn’t change my score, as it was a cellared bottle I had. (080314)

Bottle, #99, 2004 vintage. Cellared three years. Just writing down some notes on this one, not rerating it. The 2005 vintage is rumoured to aqquire a coconut-like aroma and flavor when cellared for some time, that is not happening with the 2004 vintage. The vanilla is toned down when lagered, leaving more room for the roastyness, chocolate and coffee. There’s still vanilla and sweetness, but sure not as intense as when it was fresh. The finish has a distinct smoked note as well. Plesant, me thinks. Pity it’s not brewed this year. (071220)

Bottled. (2005). Almost jet black, with a dense, tan head. Aroma is dominated by vanilla, with roasted elements and chocolate. Sweet, vanilla flavor with roasted malt and chokolate. Medium body with a pleasant bitterness to accomplish the flavor at the end. Definately not a session beer, but cheerfully enjoyed with christmas chocolates last year. (F.ex. A black beer with a nice brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with both herbal and flowery notes, but also a lingering acidity in the background. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of violet candy sugar used for cakes in the beginning, but then turning towards roasted malt and chocolate in the end. Nice.

Bottled. Brown hazy opaque colour, big brown creamy/bubbly head. Aroma of alcohol, caramel, cookies, some coffee and yeast. Alcohol, hops, some plum and fruits in flavour. Also old black coffeeish notes and roast can be found. Aftertaste is sweet caramel and alcohol along with hops. Smooth palate. Also some burnt notes in finish and aftertaste.

Bottled. Hazy orange colour, mediumsized beige bubbly/foamy head. Vegetably malt and fruits in aroma. Fruity hoppy flavour with hints of vegetably malts. Long malty/hoppy aftertaste.

Hazy orange, big clumps of yeast, nice off-white head, lace. Hoppy APA nose. Very yeasty, balanced hoppy, medium-bodied APA: Light balanced hops in the aftertaste. Solid product from Nogne O, just a bit too yeasty.
