Description
HIISI was founded in 2013, to fill a rather selfish need; We want to brew beers that we’d like to drink ourselves. Even if we do this for a living now, we still consider ourselves hobbyists of beer – it’s the flavor and meaningfulness of the beer that counts. We believe that, instead of just a beverage and means of intoxication, beer is an experience. Beer should be aromatic, nuanced and balanced, multi-sensory by nature. In addition to brewing great beer, we want to enjoy ourselves. We are here to develop interesting concepts with interesting people. We enjoy translating Finnish mythology and its lesser-known aspects into beers with character. We look for new ingredients and processes to continuously improve our craft and knowhow. We study, we try. We make our own. We will not educate others on the importance of rules, as we often do not follow them ourselves. We don’t concern ourselves with the reinheitsgebot, and we do not consider ourselves to be above any style of beer. That’s HIISI. Beer, against boredom.

Many thanks for this bottle to rosenbergh. Black colour, beige head. Malty with coffee and lots of it. A bitter finish.

Thanks to rosenbergh!! Mild-weich im Antrunk. Tolle fruchtig frische Hopfenaromen (Birne, Passionsfrucht, Mango, Ananas) zusammen mit einem leicht hefigen, mild-weichen Körper. Tolle Herbe zum Hauptteil hin, fruchtig, intensiv, toll!! Der Nachgeschmack ist lang, intensiv-herb, mild-hefig, nicht zu süß und toll hopfenaromatisch-fruchtig! Super süffig und voller Aromentiefe!! Ein tolles Bier!!!

(Keg at Gastropub Nordic, 20140609) The beer poured pale orange and cloudy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had grass, resin and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were grass, herbalness, resin, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. Too herbal brew for my taste.

Appearance: Black color with a nice big frothy beige head. Nice lacing.
Aroma: Mild grapefruit hoppy, roasted malt, coffee and mild fruity.
Palate: Medium to full body. Tad sweet and a fine bitterness. Average carbonation.
Taste: Mild grapefruit hoppy, rich roasted, coffee, chocolate and mild fruity.
Overall impression: My first BIPA from Finland. Thanxxx Rosenbergh! I really liked it. But felt it was more a nice hoppy porter.
Personal stats: Bottle from a trade with Rosenbergh

33 cl bottle @ Brygga Streetbar, BBE 31.12.2014 Aroma has lots of apricot and some fruity hops. Feels slightly musty. Flavour is somewhat tart and odd with apricot, citrus and chlorine-like off-flavour. Apricot takes over at the middle of the glass. Weird and not the most typical pale ale. But drinkable anyway.
7+3+5+3+12 = 3.0

Draught @ Gastropub Jalo
A bit different; apricot is present here too but taste is more mellow (served colder.) Also there is an odd off-flavour present. And some grassy hops & minerals I did not detect in the bottle version. And at the middle of the glass unpleasant moldy cellar tones take over. Worse than the bottle.
6+3+5+3+11 = 2.8

Bottle. Aroma is at the same time roasted and fruity hoppy. Equal intensities. Clear very dark colour. Stable head. Taste is fruity, plums, light roasted sourness. Overall quite strong roasted presence. Fruity hops. Quite nice balance, drinkable. Good beer.
