Description
HIISI was founded in 2013, to fill a rather selfish need; We want to brew beers that we’d like to drink ourselves. Even if we do this for a living now, we still consider ourselves hobbyists of beer – it’s the flavor and meaningfulness of the beer that counts. We believe that, instead of just a beverage and means of intoxication, beer is an experience. Beer should be aromatic, nuanced and balanced, multi-sensory by nature. In addition to brewing great beer, we want to enjoy ourselves. We are here to develop interesting concepts with interesting people. We enjoy translating Finnish mythology and its lesser-known aspects into beers with character. We look for new ingredients and processes to continuously improve our craft and knowhow. We study, we try. We make our own. We will not educate others on the importance of rules, as we often do not follow them ourselves. We don’t concern ourselves with the reinheitsgebot, and we do not consider ourselves to be above any style of beer. That’s HIISI. Beer, against boredom.

33cl bottle, thx Jookos! Batch #17. Near black, thin white head. Roasted malt, cocoa, milky notes. Flavor has milky sourness, roasted malt. Weird candy / berry notes in the finish. Quite odd really.

Bottle 330ml (from Jkl, #31, BB 08/2014)
Dark brown color, good beige head. Ashy, toasted, earthy-cellary aroma. Light-bodied. Some licorice, toasted maltyness, a bit cellary. Quite light. Licorice root is evident, but brew doesn’t give much else.

Tap at Revolution, Jyväskylä. 6.2 % Hazy orange color, good cloudy off-white head. Crisp coriander, peppery spicey aroma. Light-bodied to medium-bodied. Flavor is fruity and spicey. Grapefruit, white pepper and coriander. Quite easy for this abv. Similar to new wave German weizenbocks with American hops.

Bottle at Old Bricks. #55 BB 10/14. Dark deep clear ruby color, small white head, lace. Aroma is berryish and rye bready. Medium-bodied. Flavor is similar - berries, bread with some piney and resiny flavors in the finish. Unfortunately hops don’t feel so fresh and as such somewhat dissapointment. Needs rerate from tap.

33cl bottle, batch 33. BBE 9/14. Big thank you to Juti! Dark amber in color, thick foamy, lasting white head. Nice hoppy aroma with wild strawberry notes, yeast, melon. Flavor has yeast, malt, some mild hoppyness, with bitterness growing a little in the finish. Unbalanced, aroma promised more. Light bodied. Really could use a fuller body. Good drinkability.
