Description
In 1995 Harry van de Wiel decided to establish the Stadsbrouwerij Rotterdam. The brewery is decorated in the style of the old town hall of Delfshaven, the wood-copper kettles in which brewing takes place are a good example of this. In the meantime Harry's son has taken over the stirring stick and continues his father's passion.

0.33 l bottle from ’hetbiermoment.nl’. Pitch black with a thin, soapy, quickly diminishing, brown head. Sweetish, roasty and peaty aroma of dark chocolate, some coffee, tar, licorice and whisky. Sweetish, slightly roasty, very peaty taste of dark chocolate, some coffee, tar, some iodine, licorice and whisky, followed by a long, heavily peaty, burning finish. Medium to full body, oily mouthfeel, flat. Very intense, the barrel is very dominant, but the base beer is just strong enough to handle it. Very good!

33cl bottle. Pitch black pour with a fine tan head with OK retention. Smells of milk chocolate, cocoa, leather, roasted malts. Tastes bitter sweet, with notes of caramel, toffee, milk chocolate, cocoa, peanut butter, vanilla ice cream and mild whiskey. Soft mouthfeel and medium-low carbonation. An outstanding Russian imperial stout.

Bottle at De Pelgrim. Hazy golden with small white head. Lemon, lime, light dough, peach, grapes, light banana yeast with some allspice, bread, soft caramel underneath, light mineral towards the finish. Under medium sweet and light bitter. Medium bodied with doughy feel. Not a typical weizen at all but interesting and drinkable beer.

Tap at De Pelgrim. Almost clear dark golden with short lasting off white head. Banana, cloves, just massive massive spicy yeast notes, cardamom, allspice. Quite some sweet malts with caramel and honey notes. Over medium sweet and under medium spicy bitterness. Over medium bodied with creamy carbonation. Like most of De Pelgrim beers and very decent mouthfeel but very mediocre aroma.

Tap at De Pelgrim. Black with quite big tan head. Dried red berries and cranberries, dark chocolate, quite some licorice, dried plums, some ash. Actually this is quite fruity with the roasted notes just barely in the foreground. Medium sweet and bitter. Over medium bodied with creamy carbonation. Lovely mouthfeel.
