Herbal nose. Clear medium amber colour, small frothy off-white head, dissipating slowly. Aroma pale malt, ginger, myrtle, herbal notes. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, grainy, myrtle, spicy notes. Short sweetbitter aftertaste, ginger, fruity notes, medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, nice herbal tripel.

Tripel by one of the pioneers of the Dutch craft beer revolution, thanks Craftmember for sharing. Eggshell-white, mousy, stable and closed head, lacing in dots over a hazy warm golden beer with pale orangey tinge. Aroma of ripe melon, bread crust, pineapple, some vague liquorish, coriander seed, orange peel, even fresh tangerine, honey, white bread. Sweetish onset, fruity notes of pineapple, melon and peach, medium carbonated with slick, smooth mouthfeel. Supple sweetbready malt body, a tad biscuity at its edges, with orange peel and coriander spicy notes before a mild, floral hop bitterness sets in; the honeyish and remarkably melon-like sweetness, however, prevails, even when a calvados-tinged alcohol effect rounds things off and warms the throat a bit without burning. Citric aromas linger in the background. Very elegant, indeed sweet but also refinedly aromatic tripel, quite different from the average Belgian tripel, which is often more earthy and robust than this. I quite liked this Blauwe Tram, to be honest.

Bottle shared by Judyvv. Clear golden color, small off-white head. Smell and taste malts, straw, decently bitter. Don't get more. Pretty nice. 7-3-7-3-13.

Moutig, beetje saai.

Opaque ruby brown colour, huge creamy tan head, good retention, heavy lacing. Aroma roasted malt, caramel, liquorice, dark fruits, leaves from the forest, earthy touch. Smooth taste, medium sweet and bitter, malty, burnt caramel, light coffee, dark fruits. Roasted sweetbitter aftertaste, light coffee, earthy and light spicy notes, bit dusty, lingering roastiness. Full-bodied, soft creamy texture, average carbonation, complex bock, very nice brew.

Thuis uit een flesje. Donker, tegen zwart aan. En een zeer uitbundig schuim, dat ook aanwezig blijft, mooi. Zachte smaak, aroma vrij vlak. Zeker niet te zoet, lekker bokbier. Mijn uitvoering was 7,5%.

This year’s rendition of the obligatory ‘bokbier’ from this ‘pre-Molen’ era pioneer of Dutch craft brewing, shared by Craftmember. Very thick and initially towering high, foamy, regular, yellowish beige head, very dark chocolate brown robe with mahogany hue, hazy. Aroma immediately struck with a fair dosage of acetaldehyde, strongly reminiscent of freshly cut Granny Smith apples, embedded in a background of caramel, ‘Haagse hopjes’, spiced cookies, sawdust, toffee, dry baker’s yeast, sugared tea. Sweet onset, light banana, some fig and again that strong green apple presence, sharply stinging carbonation, toffeeish and sweet-peanutty malt body with a chocolatey edge and even a late and subtle roasty-bitterish accent; dry and powdery, bread-crumb like yeast effect in the end, carrying along some spicy phenols. Hop bitterness, as is custom in this style, remains subdued and very mildly herbal. Interesting, yeasty and very malty, bit ‘different’ but far from unpleasant interpretation of classic Dutch ‘herfstbok’, though I must add that I also had – in their respective classes – better brews from Klein Duimpje, too.

Clear dark brown beer, big creamy beige to brown head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: lots of green apples, apple skin, chlorine, caramel, bit fruity, some dried fruits, malty. MF: very lively carbon, medium to light body. Taste: sweet malts, some caramel, chlorine, grains, some chocolate. Aftertaste: dead yeast, malty, soft roast, chlorine, soft acidity, nutty, more chocolate. Decent one!

330mml. bottle. Tasted on the 21/11/2018 at Groningen (The Netherlands). Clear orange colour with a medium white head. Aroma is soft malts, caramel and yeast. Taste is caramel and sweet malts, leading to a medium bitter finish. Next one please!
