Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a hazy gold with a finger of foam that dissipates quickly. Big coconut driven nose with pineapple and citrus aromas. Grainy texture with more coconut and pineapple flavors. Medium tartness with a pie crust like character. Smooth finish with bright pineapple and creamy coconut. --- Beer merged from original tick of Piña Playa on 24 Sep 2018 at 21:14 - Score: 7. Original review text: Coconut forward nose with light pineapple notes and citrus. Grainy texture on the palate. Creamy coconut and pineapple.nice, but a tad hot.

12 ounce can. Medium gold color. Frothy white head. Mild toasted malt nose. Flavor of citrus and stone fruits. Hints of pineapple and lemon. Some resiny pine in finish. OK but average.

Another IPA in a can, must be a brazillion of them. Pour is hazy dull yellow. Smell is certainly dull IPA hops. Taste is what else but giant earthy kick in the ass hops. A little less intense than I thought it would be, I've had straight up ass IPA that kicked more than this but still, its terribly on style. Big mouth coating bitter hops experience. Rude, radical and nasty random. Ruthless mouth raiding rubber and pine tar. Over the top and down the sides. Quite nasty, terribly on style. If you like IPA, ignore my numbers, you'll find this quite interesting. Think about chewing on aged green grapefruit rinds soaked in turpentine. At least it don't smell like your girlfriend's BO.

Taking it up a notch, in alcohol and in flavour. Wow, this one is great, you were right, Danai ! Would love to see this one make another appearance. #Fanzine03

From a can this stuff pours large and in charge. It smells like fresh volatile pine needles. Taste is big black and bitter blue. Alarming dark beer flavor. Mouth coating hoppy imperial black. Difficult, rude. Terribly on style. Whew. Somebody give me a fresh clean pale lager for a chaser. So much beer in a little can. Oh my. Ass kicker. Certainly comes across a lot more than 7%.

Sample at Daily Growler UA during the "CREEPERy Friday the 13th" event on 04/13/2018. Slightly hazy gold color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Strings of lace. Aroma of piney hops, fruit and malt. Medium body with flavors of resiny hops, grapefruit and roast malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a piney hop aftertaste. Above average overall.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 3/14/2018. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, pine, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, spicy rye, toasted dark/brown bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate dark/roast/bready/rye malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, pine, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, spicy rye, toasted dark/brown bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, grassy, roast bitterness; and rye spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, light pepper, pine, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, spicy rye, toasted dark/brown bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate dark/roast/bready/rye malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness and rye spiciness balance; with zero acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from hop/roast bitterness and rye spiciness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, fairly sticky, and slightly resinous/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 6.6%. Overall this is an awesome black IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate dark/roast/bready/rye malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish, never aggressive. Loved the Chinook, Simcoe, Citra, and Columbus hop profile as expected. Very juicy and fairly dank hop complexity; nice roast/rye malt backbone, that still lets the hops shine. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
