Description
The origin of this brewery was a ballroom founded in 1948 by the Lauth family who made the establishment a must-see for beer lovers. They will be the first to offer draft beers made directly from a village micro-brewery.

Scharrach's first beer flowed in June 1997. It was a very distinctive blonde, with lots of body and a cheerful bitterness. Only one beer was originally planned. But it was so popular that the range grew...

In 2014 brewing was suspended and the brewery closed. After two years a group of investors acquired the premises but due to disagreements it lasted till 2020 before Serge Comtesse became the sole proprietor of the restaurant and the brewery. Serge Comtesse and master brewer Philipe Bildstein aim to bring the brewery to a new life.

Tap at Bar a Popol. Bit hazy dark brown with beige head. Cinnamon, cloves, allspice, ginger, caramel malts, light toffee and bread, figs and red raisins. Medium sweet and bitter. Solid medium bodied. Pretty decent spiced brown ale, only for Christmas though.

Snowwhite, fluffy head over pale yellow beer with a light veil, poured with a slight continous gushing.Very clean, pale malts nose, just a bit soapy - and wheat. Bit of oxydation, again wheat, but no wheatacidity. Precious little else. Wheatslickness - again - and medium carbonation; soft, creamy texture. Decent, but why ’blonde’ if it’s a blanche? Thanks to Stef!

Hazy beautiful amber color; traces of dead yeast. Light sourness in the aroma. Dry taste. Less infected than the Ambrée, but very simple, and totally not Christmas-like, maybe just sweeter than the regular.

Beautiful amber color, hidden below a huge amount of foam… A fermentation problem? Let’s smell it: sourness! (with some sugars and light malt). And the flavor confirms: infection. I detect an ordinary beer with a high bitterness.
