One of the summer tap beers at Brasse-Temps, tasted from tap at the establishment in Mons, thanks Goedele for sharing. Apparently the idea of adding a slice of citrus to a witbier, in itself incorrectly derived from German Weissbier tradition, has been taken one step further by already including lemon in the ingredients list. Snow white, lacing, creamy, opening head over a misty yellow blonde beer with pale grass-greenish tinge. Aroma indeed strongly dominated by lemon juice and even Fanta Lemon, lemon-scented hand soap, dough, green apple, rainwater, chalk, vague coriander seed, unripe pear. Fresh, crisp onset, sweet lemonade edged with souring (industrial) lemon juice effect with that sourness almost balancing out the cloying sugary sweetness; fizzy and spritzy carbonation, soapy wheat base, bit bready but light with a chalky note in the finish, where the lemonade aspect becomes a bit stronger but remains balanced by the lemon juice sourness as well as a very volatile and late grassy hop bitterish touch. I was expecting a cloyingly sweet witbier-based fruit beer à la Haacht’s Mystic or Huyghe’s Floris series to be honest, but fortunately this is less sugary and more lemony sour, albeit in a very clearly artificial way; more refreshing and in that sense less undrinkable than expected, but of course it is still a childish, simple, lemonade-like beer presumably aiming at a young and female audience.

draft @ Trolls & Bush, Pipaix. pours reddish, white head. aroma and flavors, fermented cherries with alight fruit tartness on the palate and finish. Light with lingering cherry "grillottes" palate, fizzy carbonation, finishes dry and tart. Good and refreshing for the style.

draft @ Trolls & Bush, Pipaix. pours light clear golden, white head. aroma and flavors, similar to a soda with plenty of lemon elements. acidic / citric with light grains in the aftertaste. Medium carbonation with a nice dry finish, refreshing and light summer brew.

Draught, actually at the LLN place Huge, cyclamen head leaving quite some lace over slightly hazy cherry-red beer. Concentrated cherry-sweets nose, Belle-Vue at its peak. Cherry bonbons, with some citric acid added. A real classic: it’s actually a good fizzy fruitdrink alternative. Fizzy, slightly tart and obviously some syrupy feel in the back. Well. The porren ask for it, do they?
