I always thought bocks in general could benefit from a bump in abv. And now a Fort Worth brewery has done that, an imperial bock the label says. Cool. This skinny 12 oz can was found at the nearby HEB in their singles display, a pleasant surprise. I have a tulip glass out this evening, I tilt the can for a pour. A glossy, medium brown body, sort of hazy and little more than a silvery tan ring around the glass. I smell the usual bock scent, grain, malt and toasted bread. The taste may be similar to previous bocks I have sampled with plenty of grain, sorghum, scorched wheat bread, malt and caramel. Actually it is better than average for the style. And I do think there is more substance to this one. More booziness? We shall see at the finish. But before then, I will say this is a tasty bock.

Wild Acre is a brewery I appreciate. Time to see what they do with a NE style IPA. Right off I will say I like the can, always thought the tall, skinny 12 oz cans are all right. Lifting and pouring into my Cowtown tulip glass, no irony at all. I see a yellow-orange for the body and a fleeting skim of solidly white foam. The scent is mostly orange juice with some other citrus working its way in. The drink has more going for itself than I anticipated. There is no getting away from the oranges but there is also grapefruit, white bread and a small hops bitterness. A variance within the style.

This 12 oz can was acquired at the neighborhood HEB within the past few weeks. The canned date stamped on the bottom, well, it was a long time ago. Keeping it in Texas, my glass of choice this evening is from Cowtown Brewing. The pour shows a semi-hazy, yellow-gold liquid followed by a steady, thin skim of completely white foam. I take a smell to get mostly tropical with some citrus showing up. The drink is not your basic blonde which is consistent with the nose. Pineapple, a touch of oranges, grain, a little lemon and meadow. A step up from the usual blonde that is indistinguishable from the blonde before.

Blondes can be desirable particularly in hot weather and I do like pineapple. Got that going for me presently, I have this 12 oz can put up on 4/19/22 and being poured inside of my New Belgium glass now. The appearance is a non-transparent medium gold with a respectable top of snow white foam. The smell is lightly pineapple and grain. I take a good, full drink. More aggressive with its taste than expected, pineapple definitely but not overpowering, malt, white bread, some citrus and water. Fairly dense in mouthfeel, a nod to the abv I assume. As good a blonde as I’ve had ever.

Does not get more straightforward than this, it is from Wild Acre and it is an IPA. A 12 oz can coming from the singles variety at the nearest big box supermarket. Cold now, I open and tilt inside of my Teku glass. A cloudy gold-orange body with a barely there skim of totally white bubbles. A juicy scent with the barest indication of pine. The drink is all right, orange rind, white bread, some hoppiness, grass and a small citrus bitterness. NE style has overwhelmed WC style, it is the current reality.

Hm, a DIPA that’s touts it’s low bitterness. Curious. This 12 oz can is from the beer selection at a close-by HEB. I’ve had a few Wild Acre beers, some I like, others that just didn’t register with me. Sampling out of a tulip glass tonight, closest one in the cabinet to grab. I see a murky, deep yellow-gold liquid with a promptly receding head of white foam. A pleasant smell, yellow fruit and a bit of pine. Yes, it has little bitterness along with pineapple, lemon, some hoppiness and mango. This beer has more attributes of NE style than WC style, just saying. A decent beer.

12 oz can from Total Wine - San Antonio. Pours a cloudy gold color with a small off-white head and decent retention. No lacing. Light citrus hops aroma. The flavor is pineapple juice and light bready malt with a dry, warming finish from the 7.5% ABV and a faint hop bite. Medium-light body. Medium carbonation. Low bitterness. Okay.
