Description
Winning innovator on the Belgian beer market with brands such as Maes, Cristal, Desperados, Grimbergen, Affligem, Strongbow and Mort Subite.
Maes Pils volgt in 1946.

Can. Sweet spicy orange and wheat aroma. Clear amber with nice big head. Clove, orange, and wheat flavor with hint of cherry. Slight hint of hops in the finish. Moderate acidity and mild carbonation. This is a re-rate for me - apparently I got a bad bottle the last time as it was bland and boring. Glad I gave it another try,

Deep-gold; thick white head, but carbondioxide all knocked out on pouring. Dry nose, white candi-sugar, faint aromatic smell, remindful of grapes or sultanas, and alcohol. Sweet, malty taste, always alcoholic in character. Slightly spicey character, sweetness becomes liquorice-like. Dry, but not excessively. Lots of alcoholburn, finish is terribly sweet. It’s not bad - just the opposite of the idea ’refined’.

Blond hazy body. Off-white creamy head, which is almost fully lasting. Excellent lacing. Hoppy - wheat and citric - aroma. Lightly bitter initial flavour, sweet-bitter finish.

An ordinary Belgian White, quite balanced in the aroma (with a light fruitness too), but a bit thin in the mouth.

Pale-gold, cold haze (served ice-cold...); fine, but not much (white) head. Very grainy flavour, with dryish mouthfeel, untrennable from the taste. Palate leaves quickly a metallic-hard taste - just hard, not even bitter. Weak, sticky mouthfeel as from grain powder. Weak, fizzy, super-dull lager. As trying to drink the contents of the rincings of a grain sack - or a metal container having held grain.

Coca-Cola like contraption, head and carbonation included. Sweet nose, "Traubenzucker", cookies, liquorice. Weak, sweet, slightly fruity taste. Bit like an energy fruit drink with cola flavour. Bit of leathery aroma. Light bodied, long sweet aftertaste. Bah, yes. The name "Faro" ought to be forbidden for such nablab-stuff. Another point off.

A yellow beer with a fine dense head. The aroma is sweet malty and the flavor is of corn / which give it some sourness. Not a very good pilsener.

Very slightly hazy-orange; huge, yellow-tinted head, very carbonated. Roasted, caramel, sweet nose. At the end there is faint hay-like, honey and alcohol aromas. Dry, slightly alcoholic and biscuit taste, kind of cheap liqueur. Sweet, but not aromatic - batter without salt. The alcoholimpression notwithstanding, mouthfeel is quite watery. Bof. Very average beer. Nose is OK, but the taste and mouthfeel are nowhere.

Deep black body, brownish head, rather frothy. Head disappears quite fast. Fairly lacing. Oily viscosity. Malty and spicy aroma - very sweet. Bitter initial flavour, spicy long-lasing finish.

The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel. The color is dark amber and it has a beutiful head. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of cloves, corriander, and oranges. A good beer, but not as good as I had expected.
