On tap. Great Barley Wine with lots of complexity, and dry enough to make it a pleasure to drink. Hazy (one of their murkier beers) bronze hue with a lasting off-white head with good lace, and some stray alcohol legs. Aromas are hoppy, citrus, pine and spicy. Alcohol, very rich malt with caramel and melanoidin caramelization. Some bready notes. Dark fruit esters, prunes, ripe plums, resins and mild vanilla. Flavors are mildly sweet up front, dark fruits, plums, dates, figs. A mild booze smack. Caramel, alcohol, medium to high bitterness, fruity, citrus hop flavors. Mild resin. Very nice balance with a rich caramelization. Lingering flavors. Creamy carbonation, warming, fuller bodied. Finish is a balance of alcohol (not a harsh alcohol), and bitterness. Very good.

Enjoyed on tap as part of the Beachwood sampler at Bruery Provisions in Orange, CA. Appearance is cloudy gold with thin frothy white head that laces to the glass. Aroma is ridiculously hoppy, all kinds including citrus, floral, grassy, and ’gym locker’...it’s all there and you can pick apart each one. Taste throws me off...the aroma is happier than the taste, which is unusual. It’s very smooth for a dIPA, hides the ABV well. Nicely done.

Enjoyed on tap as part of the Beachwood sampler at Bruery Provisions in Orange, CA. I tried to go to Hollingshead, so I walked there from my hotel which was 2 miles away on a Saturday night, at 5:30pm, and it was closed....F that place and their stupid Packer fandom. Anyways, walked the extra mile to Bruery and was pleasantly surprised. Appearance is really dark, oil like consistency, dark tan head that rims around the glass. Aroma of espresso, mocha, chocolate, cream, roasted malt, a bit of vanilla. Taste is über decadent, chocolate consumes the palate, I can rattle off a bunch more ingredients, including dark fruit, cream, coffee, light bitterness, very smooth and masks the high ABV. Almost perfect.

On tap at the source. Pours with a completely opaque black body with a frothy tan head that lasts to a ring. Good lace that gets batted down by some alcohol legs. Glass coating. Aromas are huge on chocolate, specifically dark chocolate, fudge, almonds, dark fruits, mild coffee, vanilla and light esters. Flavors are quite bitter, dark fruits, bitter chocolate, some floral notes from hops. Raisins, rich yet dry. Lingering molasses in the finish. You can feel the alcohol, but not much in the way of fusel or higher alcohols in the flavor. Creamy, bitter and dry in the finish. Warming. Good stuff. Tovarish is more interesting, but this is a very solid, and bitter American take on an imperial stout.
