500ml bottle - Pours dark brown with a sweet chocolate and roast malt aroma and a medium sized, fading head. It has a sweet, roast flavor with maybe a little of the chocolate note coming through. It’s smooth and goes down easy. This medium bodied brew is good but not great.

Bottled. Clear golden, dense head. Medium sweet. Some grainy malt acompanied by very light oily hops. salty finish with long bitterness. With it’s coarse malt character and hard mouthfeel it’s a rather dumbed down Czech lager.

Brown bottle, 500 ml, best before 30.04.2007, savoured on February 6 2007; eye: straw with a golden hue, light effervescence, white head that disappears completely; nose: grainy malt; mouth: grainy malt, good presence of hops that seems grainy but this could be caused by the malt, slight presence of caramel, long finale all in malt, medium body, grainy texture, good carbonation, slightly astringent, light bitterness, slightly sweet; overall: ok FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 500 ml, meilleure avant 30.04.2007, achetée le 6 février 2007, savourée le 7 février 2007; oeil : paille avec une teinte dorée, légère effervescence, mousse blanche qui disparaît complètement; nez : malt granuleux; bouche : malt granuleux, bonne présence de houblon qui semble granuleux mais c’est peut-être le malt qui cause cette situation, très légère présence de caramel, finale de bonne durée tout en malt, corps moyen, texture granuleuse, bonne carbonatation, très légère astringence, légèrement amère, très légèrement sucrée; en résumé : ok

Draught pint at Redbones on 4/6/07
Rapidly failing, thin white head atop a clear, bubbly yellow-golden body.
Fairly similar to the lightning pils I just had, this one smells of extremely muted saaz hops, giving some light nuttiness and dry, yellow grass. Plenty of spring water and light minerals, with a doughy, slightly toasty maltiness that is rather weakly represented, though the aroma as a whole is pretty weak. Perhaps a touch of lagering flaws, some acetyldehyde most prominently (though it’s still subtle). Really the problem is the rather soggy maltiness and almost zero hop flavor. I suppose it’s not even the hop problem, but just the malt and lack of much crispness. Carbonation is extremely obnoxious up front, fading quickly to become too loose. No alcohol noted. Not much of a bohemian pils and slightly too sweet, to boot.
