Medium brown. Thin head. The pinot is fairly present in this, and it lets a lot of tartness. Dry, a bit sourish. I wouldn't say this really comes together.

650mL bottle, pours black with a large beige head. Aroma reveals subdued earthy hops, some vinous notes, and a little roast. Flavour reveals faded earthy hops, bready malt, and lots of strange, perfumey vinous character. This is not a harmonious beer. Lacking cohesion and not all that pleasant. It's OK.

22oz at Josh's roof. Appearance: almost black with a beige head. Aroma: a bit strange bourbon barrel, some cookies, roasted malts, liquorice, reminds me Singularity. Taste: thin, a bit sour, roasted malts. Overall: eh, ok.

Dark brown. Aroma has quite a bit of bourbon, with a lot of chocolate. Smells a bit hot. Sweet, sticky, hot, lots of bourbon, some sort of almond.

2016 vintage. 650mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is intensely roasted, with harsh bourbon, booze, licorice, and big burnt wood. Flavour is intensely roasted, with burnt wood, bourbon, alcohol, and licorice. Burnt, hot, and harsh in many ways, but it's really quite tasty. Good stuff.

473ml can. Named after a mountain pass, or gap between Lake Minnewanka and Ghost Lakes. Pours a hazy brown with red hue and a large, creamy, long lasting, tan head that laces. Sweet aroma of bready caramel malt, Belgian yeast, raisin, prune and black pepper. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, plum, prune, raisin, molasses, chocolate, Belgian yeast, spice and black pepper in a dry finish. Medium body with a creamy, smooth, oily texture and average carbonation. Malt forward, flavourful and easy to drink.

I can't get past the cloying sweetness of this one. There's some pepper and citrus that I quite like, together with nuts, but the sweet malt is overpowering.
