Description
Law Brewing Co was born during December 2014 after leaving a research career in science of 25 years. A new challenge was required and a desire to take my home-brewing skills to the next level and, coupled with the lack of a local brewery in the City of Dundee it seemed a logical step to become part of the global craft beer revolution.
Law Brewing Co (est. 2016) is named after Dundee’s most distinctive landmark of 572 feet high; the ‘volcano-esque’ slopes of the Law. Its predominant feature is an extinct volcano formed around 400 million years ago and the name originates from either the Gaelic or Anglo-Saxon (hlāw) word meaning a ‘mound’. The modern word Law means ‘a principle governing action or procedure,’ and we aim to follow this and encapsulate an ethos and benchmark for producing high-quality beers in an ethical and sustainable manner.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours lightly hazy orangey blonde with a medium fluffy white head. The aroma is soft, sweet, perfumed, juicy, orange marmalade white bread sandwiches, apricot, peach and orange jelly. The taste is firmly dry, good hit of bitterness, bright, pithy, zesty, waxy orange peel, tangerine, kumquat, floral , orange blossom, green, touch raw and some peppery spice with a drying finish. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Nice orangey vibes and punchy bitterness.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours murky deep red - brown with a medium bubbly yellowy beige head. The aroma is sappy, oily, resinous, tangy grapefruit, blood orange, marmalade sandwiches, touch of bubblegum, toffee and brown bread. The taste is firmly dry, good hit of bitterness, pithy, zesty, waxy citrus peel, grapefruit, blood orange, quite raw, brash, punchy, pine and some alcohol with a drying, rather bitter finish. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Quite punchy and rough around the edges, but it certainly has flavour to it.

Can, 6.5% from Westhill Service Station. It pours pale golden - amber with a tiny white cap. The aroma is sweet, perfumed, boiled sweets, fruit salad, kiwi fruit, tangerine, touch green, weedy and powdered sugar. The taste is crispy, dry, actually had quite a lot of bitterness, some rawness, sharpness, green, weedy, dank, herbal, pithy, zesty, bitter waxy rind, grapefruit, bitter orange, fruit, slightly chalky, floury bread and some alcohol presence with a drying finish. Average body and fine, prickly carbonation. Pretty rough around the edges tbh.... A bit green with some harshness. Its not their best offering.

500ml bottle from Westhill Service Station. It pours lightly hazy orangey - copper with a small, bubbly white head. The aroma is musty, white grape, vinous, gooseberry, jammy, tangy, bramble, elderflower and victoria sponge cake. The taste is crispy, firmly dry, snappy, slightly tart, puckering, must, touch of bitterness, light tannin, spicy, juniper apple, elderflower, elderberry, gooseberry, bramble, jammy, hearty malt base, light tannin and twist of orange marmalade with a drying finish with just a touch of alcohol through the finish. Medium+ body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Nice depth of flavour, hearty and moreish. One of their best.
