Law Brewing Co (est. 2016) is named after Dundee’s most distinctive landmark of 572 feet high; the ‘volcano-esque’ slopes of the Law. Its predominant feature is an extinct volcano formed around 400 million years ago and the name originates from either the Gaelic or Anglo-Saxon (hlāw) word meaning a ‘mound’. The modern word Law means ‘a principle governing action or procedure,’ and we aim to follow this and encapsulate an ethos and benchmark for producing high-quality beers in an ethical and sustainable manner.

Bottle picked up in Dundee. It pours clear copper with a decent white head. The aroma is fresh, juicy, tangy, tropical fruits, pineapple action and fruit coulis. The taste is dry, decent kick of bitterness, pithy, zesty, zingy, pineapple, touch of creaminess, peppery spice, grapefruit, straw and grass with a drying and peppery finish. Medium body and moderate, prickly carbonation. Fun stuff.

Bottle picked up in Dundee. It pours hazy orangey amber with a medium white head. The aroma is sweet, tangy orange marmalade, candy peel, slight soapiness and tinned peach. The taste is dry, bitter, tangerine, tangy orange marmalade, rawness, pithy, rindy, grass and spice with a drying finish. Average body and average carbonation. Could be a bit cleaner. Fair enough.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Hazy amber body with tiny flecks floating beneath a thin off-head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of blood orange, rust and pine. Flavour of grapefruit and tangerine with a bitter finish. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Bold and bitter. This reminded me of a lighter version of Top Out’s The Cone.
