Description
Artzner craft beer has a very long history. It dates back over two centuries. In 1882 to be exact, Pierre Hoeffel founded brewery Perle in Schiltigheim. In 1919: Charles Kleinknecht, brewing engineer, took over the brewery and in 1930, a new brewery was built. Just before the Second World War, production reached 300,000 hectoliters. In 1971, the brewery was closed and the buildings were demolished in the 1980s.
In 2009, Christian Artzner, great-great-grandson of the founder, paid his greatest tribute to this beer by bringing it back to life. In 2015, the Perle brewery officially opened in Strasbourg, at the Plaine des Bouchers, with a brand new production facility and beers "made in Alsace"

(bottle, 33cl, gusher!) Hazy, amber colour with a quickly diminishing off-white foamy head. Herbal-spicy and resiny hoppy aroma with subtle fruity notes and bready malty background with hints of caramel. Mildly bitter and delicately sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a slightly prickly carbonation. Mildly bready malty sweetness upfront with notes of caramel, accompanied by herbal and grassy, slightly greenish and resiny hops; bitter-sweet with a delicately resiny aftertaste. Not overly remarkable wet-hopped Amber Ale. 28.III.17

Bouteille (merci, le professeur!): Deep golden, hazy, some floaties detectable, small and stable off-white head, sweet pale malt and shy floral- piney hops in the nose; mild to moderate bitter and sweet flavour, light bodied, quite soft at least; slightly lingering bitter-sweet finish with piney hops and sweet pale malt.
