Draught at the brewery. 10 varieties of hops used, put in every minute over 120 minutes. Pretty amber color. Huge, complex, hop aroma, with citrus, grass, pine, and underlying caramel malts. Lovely nuanced hop flavors, layered and elegant, with enough malt to back it up. Fruit, caramel, and hops galore. Bitterness is mild at first, but then kicks in strongly later, and yet it really is a refined and restrained bitterness that works perfectly. Superb. (I have had this several times, and the later ones tended to be far too sweet.)

Draught at McGloughlin’s. It was just on, and a bit too warm. Milky, rich, sweet aroma of bitter chocolate, coffee, smoke. Flavors similar, with milk, cocoa/chocolate, coffee, wood, minerals and salt. Thick, super rich flavor with lots of umami, yet the body is too light and thin, rather flat. I’ll need to try this when it is colder.

Bottle from John’s Marketplace. Pours pale orange with a very creamy 4-finger off-white head. Aromas of light fruit, mild caramel and floral hops. Medium body with near frothy carbonation. Flavor is floral and citric. Caramel is mild. It’s bitter, but not incredibly so. A very flavorful, very floral ale. Excellent.

Glowing gold with a large, rocky, white head. Was expecting more hops in the aroma. It’s mostly spicy yeast, some banana, fruit, light citrus, coriander. Full bodied with nice carbonation. Very spicy flavor. Yeast gets you, too. Again, was expecting more hops, though. Some banana, and citrus fruit along with the coriander, again. A very nice wheat actually, just not at all what I was expecting. (Bottle #’d 114 of 600)

500 ml bottle from Tanakaya. Cloudy light golden color with a huge, fine, foamy head. Spicy, earthy malt aroma, wheat, with a Belgian yeast character. A bit of hop aroma. Very hoppy flavor, quite bitter and peppery. Wheat malt, fruit, quite spicy. Slightly creamy, with a farmhouse ale character. Earthy and quite bitter. Interesting. A bit reminiscent of a saison or biere de garde. Hops work, but there is little indication of why there are five used. Very unique and flavorful, though. Good.

Bottle at home ... Once again a Huge thanks to TimE for a beer i could not find any other way ... deep black ... thin lacing ... smokey fishy roast malt nose ... little fizz ... good roast ... light if solid roast ... lots of malt ... little chocolate.

Tap at Beer Belly, winter 2007. Lighter, and with less alcohol than usual for the style. rich banana, clove, and chocolate, but not really a bock. A decently rich and smooth dunkel weizen, really, but lacks the power and complexity of a bock.

dark brown, smooth brown head. soursh fruity aroma, roasted stuff. roasted grains dominate the flaovr, fruity note accents. nice flavor, a little smoked too.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Slow gusher. Pours with a huge, foamy, off-white head with a hazy amber body. Aroma of brett, raisin, plum, plastic and caramel. Taste is fruity with a noticeable infection. Vinous and some vinegar. Medium carbonation and dry bodied. I am not entirely sure if they were trying to make the beer taste like this. If so, it is not Jolly Pumpkin by a long shot. Some of their other beers tasted like they had brett, but this is by far the most heavy handed one. Tastes nothing like a scotch ale at all.

Bottle. Pours with a very large lightly beige head over a clear golden yellow body. Musty and grainy with a distinct citric acid note. Caramelized rice and light metal. Brown sugar and oatmeal. Taste is bready and brown rice like, with a medium wine like note followed by baked brown sugar and oatmeal on the finish. A decent amount of acidity, but I wouldn’t call it sour, or even tart really. Very light coffee grounds. Medium carbonation and dry. Different.
