Porter aus der Privatbrauerei Hoepfner, Flasche von Bierselect.de. - Dunkles Schwarzbraun, klar. Langer malzbitterer Nachtrunk. - Interessantes Bier, vom Geschmacksprofil her eindeutig untergärig und somit kein klassisches Porter sondern eher ein schwarzes Märzen. Jedenfalls sehr probierenswert.

33cl bottle from a trade with Mariusz. A almost clear pale golden beer with a mid-sized most good lasting white head. Aroma of dry grainy malt, straw, cereals. Taste of very grainy pale malt, straw, cereals, dry mild bitter finish.

Bottle at the brewery. Pitch black with a high, tan, rocky head. Fruity nose, chocolate, grain, grapes. Lightly roasted flavor, berries, big raisins, coffee, chocolate. Somewhat sweet, but a nicely bitter, dry finish. Decent, very German porter. Wonder if it is a lager?

Tap at the brewery. Cloudy, pale gold with a low, fine head. Worty, tangy nose, lemon, apple, grain. Creamy and tangy, grainy flavor. Soft, creamy pallate. Low carbonation. Interesting, but too sweet and worty.

Tap at the brewery. My sixth MJ500 beer of the journey so far. PAle, shiny gold with a low head. Rather dead malt nose, low hops. Creamy, sweet flavor, somewhat eggy. Dull, oily body. Far too sweet and rather lame overall. Interesting to think that Michael Jackson liked this enough to include it in his 500. There were few well-known Baden-Wurttemburg beers, then, so he must have been happy to try these at the lovely Brauerei-hof. Crazy that 4 Hoepfner beers got into that book. One is now retired, and the Jubelbier only comes in the winter. This was either way better back then or Michael just had such a great time here that he wanted to be nice.

Tap at the brewery. My 5th MJ500 beer on this trip. Brilliant gold, effervescent. Rocky head. Bright nose of crisp malt and spicy hops. Lemony hop flavor, somewhat stiff malt, peppery finish. A bit of cardboard. Somewhat watery but decent enough flavor. Not sure how this compares to the ones MJ tried here. They have been bought by a large company since then, as have many in Germany. This is an ok pilsner today, not not much more. Would not rate that high in the present world.

Huge thanks to Erzengel for sharing! Beer in the glass looks good, dark brown, small head. Fruity-malty aroma. Starts mild malty, light roasty, light chocolate notes. Well balanced finish, maybe a bit metallically. Okay.

Many thanks to Beerhunter111 for sharing! Smooth malty intense beginning. Hints of caramel there, round and smooth with a nice roasty bitterness. Caramel, smooth dry roasty grain, very round and easy to drink. A very nice balanced Schwarzbier. Dry caramel, moderate bitter, round and nice.
